Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Normally I would use the few times I'm on the boards to moan and complain about something, but this one is different.
I'm concerned about one of my friends here. Her screen name is mystie.
mystie is having a difficult time right now. She already has to deal with fibromyalgia -- something I can only be of minimal help for (when you don't have it, you don't truly understand someone who does) -- and part of her disability is in trouble because of particular things her son isn't doing.
But my bigger concern is her dog Sophie. Sophie is not quite 2 years old -- very young no matter how big the dog is -- and she has, from my understanding, a loose kneecap that will simply not stay in place. Sophie is in pain virtually all the time because of this, and because I know how much pets mean to their owners -- and dogs in particular -- it breaks my heart to see a pet who is basically mystie's best friend in the shape that she's in.
She is definitely in need of hugs from us, at the very minimum.

Mystie.. I am so sorry. I pray that Sophie can get better and not suffer the pain she is suffering. My mom's dog's name is Sophie.

Times like this, we find out who our "real" friends are!!!
She's a friend of mine and she indeed is having a very difficult time. Some folks just don't understand that for many, our furbabies are VERY important to us and help us manage our depressions and such.
In Sophie's case, it's both knees that are affected :(:(
She's been trying to get help but so far there are no resources for her situation:(
I even googled for some and came up with essentially, zip:(:(
I hope other's who treasure their furbabies will send her hugs and comfort as well.

2. Oh, my pain is fake? so that I can just be pitied and babied?
FYI... if I only wanted to be pitied, I would choose something a tad less high-maintenance to fake.
For example, something that wouldn't require a ton of painful procedures, doctor visits, meds, and money...

LMT very cool your dogs name is Sophie too. Unfortunately for Sophie has Luxating Patella Grade 3 and is going to need surgery which at this time is out of my reach and a few people have searched and I've emailed places but no one responds. thank you for the hugs!

GB I have you on my friends list and can send you an email. This fibro is killing me. I am in a lot of pain everyday and days like yesterday just plain sick to my stomach. I can't take narcotics for pain because I'm on an MAOI anti-depressant and the pain med I'm on is basically just a stronger Advil. Thank you for your kindness.
