Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I have a friends in another part of the state that are about to be evicted. They owe a LOT of back rent. He is currently unemployed and not eligible for unemployment. He tells me he has been looking for work. She works part time. He says they have contacted all kinds of agencies and they are either told the agency is out of funds, or they are not eligible because the are no children involved.
I have suggested they contact family and ask for help but they say they do not want family to know.
A collection has been taken up, but none of our mutual friends will chip in because the reason they are in this bind is because he has a gambling problem. You see, i knew the woman he dated before this one. They were to be married, but she passed away. She left him in great shape financially, but he lost it all. Obviously, people have the right to not help.
He calls me crying. This is killing me. He made some huge mistakes, but no one deserves to be homeless. I just really wish there was a way to help him out of this. PS....I told him to get help with this addiction....

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Even people who do *not* make "huge mistakes" of the self-destructive type still have no automatic entitlements.

There you go, and be certain to keep your cookie jar beyond his reach until well after he is able to contribute to it if he might ever wish to do so.
HAS A GAMBLING ADDICTION ....................
HE IS SUFFERING THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS ADDICTION........
DONT GIVE HIM ANY MONEY.
HE WILL JUST GAMBLE IT AWAY...........................

You are stopping him from reaching the point of breakthrough.
Every time he calls you crying, you are helping him stop from reaching the point of breakthrough.
He HAS to smash through this growth issue. He has to break from his fantasy and belief in magic (what gambling amounts to) and face the harsh reality of life. Anything you give him right now will slow that down and divert him.
He has to experience this pain. He has to go through this crying. It's growing up. It's having to face the consquences of his choices.
Don't get in the way. You are making his life worse.
Unless he breaks his addiction nothing will ever change.
And thank goodness not children are involved
I wish the friends who know him and have the ability would help him find a good job....there have to be some jobs to earn income and move on from being evicted....
He is not cognitively a small child.
if he is going to lose everything he has, it is because he is choosing to do so.
Choosing right now.
He's not a cripple. He is not an abused puppy. He is a functioning adult male making adult human choices with a brain the same size as yours.
If i get out my crystal ball I see you losing your belongings. If you are going to give him somewhere to stay get your jewellery and anything valuable put away in storage or a bank deposit box.
