Today my bosses boss came to the office and greeted everyone but me with happy enthusiasm. I guess a bit of explanation is in order.

Over the past year I have missed 14 weeks due to my depression with the last time being committed to a psychiatric hospital due to a suicide attempt.

My stay at the hospital resulted in a change in my medication by a professional in the field of depression instead of a GP doctor.

Now I am feeling sad due to the perceived or real snub thinking that it is all my fault for being depressed. I know it isn't but tell it to the others. I need to get out of this quick before I drop into the depression hole again.

So many people do not understand major depression. To what extent, I cannot say, but some of them look 'down' on us. On that point, there is not much we can do; they have their ignorant perception. We, the depressed, have to pretty much chalk it up to an aspect of the disease.

That might HAVE been a 'real snub' or only perceived as such by you. In case it was, you MIGHT want to convey to your boss .. who MIGHT convey to HIS boss that you are getting better medical care and your attendance/performance has since been AND WILL CONTINUE to be acceptible.

It's called 'office politics' .. and this might help you move further away from an unfortunate history.

Hello -

Of course being sick is not your fault. Period.

Are you an at will employee? If so, your employer can fire you for any reason anytime. Sucks, but true especially in this recession.

I know long-time employees that are getting fired or laid off for calling in sick EVEN ONCE.

Its not your fault. Would it be your fault if you had cancer, diabetes ro any other disease??? NO. Depression is a disease that we cannot control. We cannot turn it on & off. Wish we could tho.

Did you go on disability when you were off???
