Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Most people don't understand depressive minds. They just think you'll get happy, outgrow it.
You won't..... But they can't understand it. You can't get mad at them. There's many problems people have. You, I and no one understands them all.
If they are friends or.... an acquaintance that your able to sit down and explain what it is. Then they might get an idea.
You can't get upset about it. You can't dwell on others ignorance.
Meds help many people. Some people have a lack of the chemicals that allow them to be happy. Meds can help a great deal. Herbs... More natural, but better for your body and mind. Read what herbs and foods in general help to allow your mind to relax, and feel at peace.
There's foods and herbs that actually help with anxiety too.
Most people with anxiety tend to focus or dwell on certain problems. Often they are small problems or worries that the average person would not give a second thought about. But the anxiety ridden mind can't stop thinking about it. Creating a mountain from a molehill. Herbs help! Remember that!
So, I imagine when your Depression is very bad, and your in that deep dark pit where everythig in the world is wrong and it takes every breathe in your body just to keep breathing, cleaning yourself, living. See people who don't suffer from Depression, have a very hard time understanding what exactly it does to those of us who have to deal thit every time it rears its ugly head.
I'm sorry to be rude, my name is Kat, I have 28 years of BiPolar Disorder w/Severe Suicidal Depression, and that fun lil disease took a few good years of my life until I got to the point of having had tried every medication, and tried every type of Therapy and I couldn't get "me" back. Finally I was put in-patient at the end of 2010 and had several cycles of ECT and that got things finalized and helped me get back to the business of living.
It's not always the easiest way to treat depression, its more of a thing for us old cronnies who've been doing this forever. ECT is a had treatment, I won't even joke about that, but it does work and it is a proper way to treat Depression, Having said that most Pdocs will not use ECT until there is absolutely nothing else to try, or there are no more meds or med combo's to try.
So before you give up and get irked at people for the way they talk to you. Try a different type of Therapy, there are so many different types, CBT, DBT, Dynamic, Sensory Integration, Biofeedback, etc. There are many different types of Therapy and many different Types of Therapists. These days you can pretty much pick who you want.
I would look into things and see what rings true to you. I know you're young and it can be very difficult, but I'm sure you can do this. Because I'm sure you wan to get to a point of Long Term Stability so that you can just live your life.
As for all those lovely people who have good intentions, but intentions that we find incredibly annoying. Usually they are just trying to help some how. They've never walked a mile or a block for that matter and they don't have a clue what we suffer through every day of our lives. Personally I just politely ignore them. I don't engage them if they come up to my door, or in the Market, I simply say I'm not interested, thank you.
I hope you get through this and get some peace in your life.
Take care,
Kat
