Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
You said meds don't work but have you tried any therapy? If that's not an option, then you may have to work harder on the basic things to get better: exercise, sleep, a really good diet, and examining the ways your thinking may be counterproductive.
This link shows thinking patterns that depressed people have, in case you didn't know about them.

Sometimes just catching those negative patterns and working to change them can be a big help.
Also, think about what sets off your temper (other than depression). Does it happen when you're tired, overwhelmed, stressed out? Is it hormone-related? Sometimes just paying attention to how you feel physically can help you catch/prevent an angry outburst.
I can relate to the bad temper issue. When my depression wasn't treated, I was always irritable and flying off the handle.
As for asking for help, I can also relate to not wanting to admit you need help. But sometimes it's the only way to get help! ;) Is there one person you trust more than anybody else? I know you lost your grandfather; I'm really sorry about that. Anybody else you could talk to?
