My sister came over today to help give my mother a bath. When she did, she complained her car's brakes were making noises. Previously, she had complained about them, but under various scenarios I heard nothing when I drove. So, this time, my father had me take it to the mechanic nearby to check it out. Most of the brakes were still good, except one, but they should be replaced lest we forget later. So, I tell my sister about it and she asks about the cost. I said maybe $100 or more. She begins to worry.
Later, she and my father are arguing about why I didn't say anything or listen to her about the brakes months ago. I countered it was the way she drives. She'll keep going until she gets to the light or stop sign and then brake, which she denied. I tend to brake some distance and slow down. She said I didn't and I was a worse driver than she was. Now, she said, she has to pay for a repair and she had little money as her work hours have been cut. If I had listen, the car would have been repaired when she had money. Prior to getting married, she was working a lot and spent most of that money on clothes. She had trouble to paying for her wedding despite paying no rent, car insurance, etc. while making more than my father. She said I told her it was the cold, which I don't remember, or brake dust, which I did as she tend to brake hard, which she again denies as she can barely react the pedals due to her weight. Shall I video tape her I countered? Now mind you, my father would have and did pay for the brakes. I countered, you don't know when a car will have trouble, tomorrow or six months from now and brakes wear down. My father also said I wasn't a mechanic. If she thought there was a problem, she should have gone to the mechanic and that she should know the car. She got very anger and started shouting various things, such as I'm a bad driver, I'm the devil, I'm going to die very soon and that I'm going to hell. She was sitting down with a small tray table near her. She made a motion of getting up and grabbing it, but I moved across the room and pushed her down. She took out a cell phone and threaten to call 911 on me for assault. I told her go ahead, but to remember that I could say she was trying to throw a table and I was defending myself. However, my father persuaded her not to as I was needed to take care of my mother and him. She accused him of letting me get away with stuff because of that, without specifying what that was.
So, we continue arguing. She makes the same threats, this time saying I'm a loser because I have no friends. I counter, I don't want friends so what does that matter. That's was akin to saying I'm a loser because I don't scuba when I don't like to swim. Still, I'm a loser. More on the car and telling me to shut up, which I say I won't as she was accusing me of things and I had a right to defend myself. Then, she decides she going to take my computer. Previously, it was hers, but she gave it to me after she made bought a new one. Both on payments. She went to my room, threw one of my shoes and a perfume bottle at it, then attempted to pull the keyboard and mouse and hitting the computer screen. I told her to stop, but she said it was hers as the place she bought it from had her name on it. I countered it was a gift from her and now mine. Then, I said, ok, I'm taking the car back as it's under my name. No, she said as she had a parking permit for her place on it, so it was hers. Well, if you want to try that. Go ahead and call the police, I can face a petty theft charge, was she willing to face a grand theft auto charge when I call the car stolen?
We go back to the living room and things calm down a bit . We get a call from the doctor and my father goes to the kitchen. I go to help as I may need to talk to them about my father's care. She follows to get some scissors to cut my DSL line, but I'm blocking her way out and refuse to move as I listened. Small room, weapon in hand,..... yeah, who will the police believe I think she thought?
We go back to the living room and start talking normally. Almost as if nothing happen. My sister had acted this way many times in the past. Many times, I've accused her of projecting her problems. She'll get mad about something at work or other personal matters, I can now add marriage to that, pick some small thing with us and then explode to express that frustration with us, knowing that we won't cut her off because we're family. She denies that, of course. However, given how I told her that her threats and accusations meant nothing to me i.e going to hell or jail (also, my breathing and pulse never went up despite the shouting) I wonder how she'll react next time.
