This ill advised attempt at a law (which was DEFEATED by the voters) needs a bit of background to understand. And in turn, a bit of background helps us defeat legislation like this.

People tend to have a lot of philosophies of life, often they can be expressed with fairly simple statements, but in truth have complex meanings.

Many people have philosophies that are not consistent, possibly even contradictory.

One such philosophy (or you can call it a moral if you like) is that there is no place in society for recreational sex outside of marriage. Some even hold that there is no place for recreational sex INSIDE of marriage. (Recreational sex being defined as sex without the intent to conceive a child.)

There is a pro life philosophy that says it is immoral to abort a pregnancy. Some Americans hold exceptions for abortions that save the life of the mother, others do not.

When you couple these two things in a "my or else" way, people go to endless lengths to find ways to make all abortions illegal. By defining life to begin a conception they get around the famous "Roe versus Wade" Supreme court decision that legalized abortions. In their minds this is a good thing.

Sadly they are totally ignorant of many of the issues discussed in the article that Obeylix referenced.

As a further irony, many people who favor such legislation also are strongly opposed to teaching teens sex education unless it focuses 100% on abstinence.

Sorry to be so long winded, but this is a complicated issue. I hope that people who favor this type of law get exposed to some rational ideas.

Also thank you for pointing out Obey that it is an area of mississippi that tried to introduce that and not ALL of america. I see odd things all the time going on in one country or another and don't think everyone in the whole place is exactly the same.

All of that looks frightening...But the one I'm stuck on the most is what are people supposed to do in Mississippi when they need a organ transplant?..Do they need to leave the state to be put on a organ transplant list? Or would that even be illegal? Do the people who write this think they are invincible? They may need a organ transplant someday! WTF !!!!!?????

To answer your question, Friend, those who need transplants must construct a raft, rescue a slave, and float down the Mississippi River in search of a donor.

It just seems crazy that this was even considered. The idea that someone could be tried for having a miscarraige is horrendous in the age we live in. It is an attempt to breach human rights.

Hypothetically, if this law were passed and someone had a transplant in another state, would they be liable for prosecution upon their return to Mississippi?

It's good to bring it to the public Obey, nothing to be upset about, just informed. There are countries where things happen in the dark and is kept quiet, at least it's out front and known.
