I'm pretty sure there is no way to stop them. I just had to wait them out. It's totally crazy! One of the weirdest things I ever experienced. I hope maybe someone else figured something out though.

Although I have to say, can you get more meds? Its much better to wean yourself off these slowly. Although admittedly I did it as slowly as possible but I still had quite a few side affects.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. One reason I'll never go on Effexor XR again.

Thanks, Yes that's the problem I wasn't able to get my prescription so I have been out for 2 days, I am going to pick it up today this evening. It does suck, I just didnt think it would be as bad as it is.

Yeah it took two weeks for mine to subside when I went off Effexor. I was taking 150mg when I took it. So not that much. I understand the higher your dose is the worse the withdrawal. So if you ever do decide to go off these meds see if you can't make sure you have some down time so you aren't having to function when you're dealing with the withdrawal.

Definitely get that prescription and take one right away!

I was on 225mg and came off to go on mirtazipine
The withdrawal and side effects of the new drug made me so ill Im back on effexor

They scared me,If I missed just one dose of effexor I got the zaps you describe,it goes away in the end.Promise : )But I'm on others now,citalopram,I do get the zaps but only after a few days of not taking.Never had it on other meds.I'm actually relieved you described them exactly.They do go away completely once off meds : )

I was on lowest dose too,it affects people different ways,my sis is on effexor and it works for her,but our friend who tried it had the effects I had

Ugh. Not what I wanted to hear when I'm about to go on Effexor. Hopefully it'll work and I won't have to go off of it for a while...

TY everyone, I did finally get my script and immediately those zaps went away, cerg220 I like Effexor actually, it works better for me than any other med I have been on, just don't miss your doses lol,

I had to take mine at the same time everyday, if I was even an hour late I started feeling the withdrawal symptoms.

i'm on effexor and it's pretty good. i definitely feel it if i don't take it at the right time the next day. i've been on a lot of different meds and it's the most stable for me so far.

OMG!!!! I told my neurologist about those withdrawl symptoms and she told me that she had never heard that! I know it's bad for you, but thank you so much. Now I don't feel so alone.
It is like little zaps in the center of your brain, that go off every 15 seoncds or so, right?
I know of no other cure than to get back on the meds. I ran out a few months ago and it was more than a week before I could pay for them. I was sitting in the tub pulling my hair and begging God to just take me and quit tourturing me!
I was screaming at my husband for no reason and was just afraid to be around people.
He went and spoke with our Pastor and then our Pastor spoke with our local Pharmacist. They agreed to let me get my meds and pay them later. Maybe you and your Pharmacist can work something out. Or maybe your local Red Cross or church can help you with them.
