I think that way all the time.

But I'm even more selfish in wanting another day....

Thank you both, and you're right, everyone is valuable to somebody. For me, it's for my kids primarily and i need to remember that.

You are a valuable person! Depression will make you think otherwise. I think about suicide a lot, but only when I am depressed. I do have happy days and when I do, I appreciate every thing in my life because I know that once I enter into a depressive mode, the way I think and feel will change. My daughter is the one who encourages me and she is the reason I am still alive. I don't think you are selfish at all, it is only natural to want to end your life when you suffer from depression because depression is a horrible illness to live with and only those who have been through it understand. But stay strong and think about your kids and how devastated they would be if you commited suicide. You are a very important person in their life and I am sure you love them very much. Hugs to you

Hold on to your kids and think of the day they will get married and how proud you will be. Think positive and get medical help. Your life has purpose and you are not alone.

And you're definitely not alone; I'm haunted by my birthday -- some close friends and family were over with a lovely cake, I blew out the candles, and everyone clapped their hands, per the usual. What they'll never know is they were clapping about my wish (isn't that how it works?) -- the same wish I make every night: That I die in my sleep.

It is so hard. At the moment every night I dread the morning, I hope it will never come. It must be so hard for you, but it is so good that you think of your kids, they could never be without you.

it's so hard I know, feel the same way, My son is 30 and I love him very much, trying to hang in there for him. never imagine this would happen to me, and should not for anyone.
I'm hardly eating anything, so I am physically weak too. Husband of 25 years divorced me and changed my lifesyle drasticslly..no health insurance. Any advice? My heart hurts for all who suffer. Also starting Effexor but very skeptical, again opinions solicited. Thank you..you all are in my prayers.

My mind goes there too. Short of suicide, however, we're going to be here until it's our time to go. Remember, it's the depression talking. We're all meant to be here or we wouldn't have been born in the first place. I, too, keep myself going for a husband and son who would be devastated. Think of this, a therapist I saw today said the hardest people he has to face in his practice are those grieving over a loved one's suicide. He said they wear their grief like a tatoo. That really left an impression on me. We all have to hang in there and do whatever little thing we can to beat this black "dog". Best to all here - it seems we all understand the pits of this disease.

LynneBeth, I don't know much about Effexor. Years ago, I took one pill and it really made me loopy - didn't agree with me at all. Gave my who head a surreal heavy tight feeling. The psychiatrist took me right off of it. You know, though, meds work differently for everyone. Not much advise to add otherwise. Presently, I'm on Paxil, ready to up the dosage tomorrow, so we'll see. I really, really hate the morning where I feel my worst though. Good luck with your treatment.
