Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I think that when we hide aspects of the passing, it creates a cave where we have to deal with those aspects of the passing all by ourself. I am curious, why are you hiding the overdose aspect of her passing? Are you trying to protect her, or you?
Bereavement is a complex thing. People like to talk about the stages of grief, but to me that is counter productive. That sort of implies that you get one shot at "passing" each stage, and if you go back and do it again you have somehow failed.
I like to think of it as the emotions of grief. If you think that you have passed the anger emotion, but find you get angry again, then odds are that you have just been handed an "anger trigger" that is somehow different than the previous ones you dealt with. Rather than feel like you failed because you are angry again, take some comfort in knowing that you dealt with anger before, and you can deal with it again.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
