Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I've had the same psychiatrist since I left the hospital eleven years ago. I've had the same provider and been on the same medication. I've made a lot of changes and am reconstructing my life as the one that I was living was not good for me. I've had a mood disorder since I was fifteen, and I'm now middle age.
My mood disorder tends to wax and wane, and despite the fact that I have probably been in a better place occupationally and socially than I have been in years, my mood disorder is worse than ever. I sleep all the time, I cry constantly, can't focus, and am all over the place. Not only do I think this medication is no longer really working, my provider has completely stonewalled me every time I've brought up discussion of new medication. She also has refused to come back to the office since Covid has ended and it's all telehealth.
My therapist, who I really like, referred me to a psychiatrist, who she raves about and says that she will spend 90 minutes with me on the first session, but I am not really feeling it. The reason that I am not feeling it is because they require a cash deposit. To be clear, I have solid insurance that covers my mental health costs in full, I'm not cash pay. I don't have a lot of cash because I'm a student again, and they are impossible to get a hold of. My calls go to voicemail every time. They call back but it's constant phone tag. My general feeling on any new relationship is if it's annoying or stressful from the start, and it feels like there is tons of friction and it's uphill, to just not do it. I was having a telehealth session with my neurologist who treats my migraines, which are tied in with my mood fluctuations. I brought up what was going on and they told me that they have psychiatrists and psy nurse practitioners on staff and that they could treat my mood issues alongside my migraines. So, I made an appointment with them. They don't require a cash deposit and it was pretty frictionless. I might still seek out other opinions in the meantime. One of the issues is that I'm taking an antipsychotic and I've developed insulin resistance which could be a side effect of that.
I'm curious to know other peoples' opinions on their first impressions with health care professionals, especially psychiatrists? I generally find that it works similar to any other relationship.

The hardest accepting a diagnosis that can perhaps find out later was actually a misdiagnosis, and even better, there’s nothing wrong with you.
The environment and stress induced anxiety, as a result of lacking justice accordingly to Maslow Hierarchy Theory. Going to medical doctor is essential to fulfill Blooms Taxonomy but again when resources are not in place the situation can behave as detrimental to the affected persona.
Ultimately, stability is good and honesty is even better all around.
Something to remember, psychiatrists practice medicine they’re not miracle workers. They only know as much as you share to best assess your psychiatric need.
The miracle is always within the persona.
You can always go to your regular medical provider and request a referral to see another psychiatrist in your network.
A medical doctor is very powerful and behaves as your backbone support.
You can look for a second opinion from another psychiatrist.
I makes perfect sense. sometimes fresh eyes can help when it feels like your
psychiatrist is not hearing you and when it feels unaffordable.
I'm always wary of mental health professionals who require a fee over and above what your insurance pays (are you out of network)?
If you trust your therapist can you tell her about financial issues?
Your insurance company can give you a list of providers who are in network
Do what you think is best for you. Good luck with everything
