Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Yes, it does appear that "our world" is hugely biased toward married folks and couples. No question. But that is mostly due to commercial and economic considerations.
If I dwelled on the subject long enough, I would feel utter despair at the fact that I, too, will grow old and go to my grave alone, having spent the last half of my life on the outside/looking in.
But I CAN'T dwell on that or similar notions. The results would be self-destructive. I have to find more POSITIVE pursuits and distractions.
Once you find those distractions and immerse yourself in them, you will reap the benefits of self-worth and relationships capable of giving you and your life far more support, love and care than you thought.
Yes, I understand those feelings. I call them The Trappings of Love. They are fun and wonderful. But they are also fleeting. And they are merely expressions that never go deeper than the surface.
If my former wife had been compatible, and giving, and loving on spiritual, emotional and intellectual levels, then I wouldn't have given a DAMN if we ever bought each other gifts or flowers or ANYTHING.
A "true love" has to exist independent of the materialistic expressions. You have to want and seek a relationship that makes The Trappings of Love almost insignificant.
Try not to get caught up in the materialistic side of "love." Again, it's the commercial and economic forces that push that crap upon us.
The candy and flower industry could collapse tomorrow, but meaningful relationships will last through the ages.
Personally, I consider self-worth to be the intellectual and emotional feeling one receives after giving one's mind, heart and body to a job, a friend, a family member, a soul mate, or a cause.
I used to feel great self-worth after a great day at work.
I felt great self-worth after helping my sister-in-law through her battle with cancer.
I felt great self-worth after playing catch with my nephew in his backyard.
I felt great self-worth after being complimented on a labor of love which required much time, energy and thought to accomplish.
I felt great self-worth coordinating the burial ritual at the visitation service for a fraternity brother who had passed away suddenly two years ago.
But I can almost guarantee you that a meaningful relationship will NOT be found when you are desperately seeking it.
It will be discovered when you are totally immersed in a career, or a hobby, or great relationships with family and friends, or a host of other distractions.
In all likelihood, a meaningful relationship will find YOU before you stumble into IT.
Stop waiting for "it" to happen! Fill your life with meaningful distractions. There are plenty to choose from. Put your focus in other areas. That's what I have had to do, and it works.
It's easy to be miserable. It's hard to cultivate a meaningful, positive life and lifestyle. But the hard work getting there will consume you and give you self-worth on the journey.
It really comes down to choice: choose to be miserable, or choose to be happy.
I understand how you feel about wanting to hold on. To have that person that looks at you, with love. To have someone to be there. I want these same things . I don't have them. I have not had this in years as if ever. I watch movies where they couple is together and I get emo. Just the way I am. But you can't make it happen. That is called manipulation and you don't want that. Just got to keep putting the love out and do the best you can. Forgetting what comes back. It will eventually happen. Some guy is going to see it radiate from you and he is gonna have to have you. But make sure he is true first. Don't stand for some poser
"if you want anyone to love you you first have to love yourself"
this is so TRUE. If you don't love yourself how can you expect someone else to love you?
I know it sounds a bit harsh but if you really think about it, it does make a great deal of sense.
