Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Just a thot and not so much as a hobby but what about surfing through you-tube. If you like cats they have a ton of funny video's on them. Virtually any idea you can think of it's there. It's good entertainment that can stimulate your mood up a notch.
I used to do calligraphy and that's something you can do on your own at home.
All the best
I used to do Tae Kwon Do (got to black belt actually) and was thinking about getting into that again (one of my friends goes to a school that he says is good) This would give me excercise but it has been so long since I went and I am out of shape now dont know/cant get up motivation/energy to go/try.
I am in the same boat as you, BFourtyTwo -- my biggest hobby was photography until this latest bout of depression sank in. I can't seem to get back into it.
So, the question is, do you wait for depression to lift a bit so that you get motivated to pursue hobbies? Or do you force yourself to do something and see if the enthusiasm/motivation follows? When you're depressed, it's hard to even think of things you want to do.
The fact that you have some ideas shows you've got a little bit of motivation, so you need to build on that. You don't need a photography group to learn.
I went from a complete beginner to an award-winning semi-pro, selling my photos to book publishers and collectors, and I learned mostly from Betterphoto.com. It's a free site, a community like here, where you can upload your photos and get critiques (if you want), and a LOT of positive feedback. There are free articles to help you learn. There's a monthly contest, and by participating in that, you can learn a lot. So even if you're not with people in person, you really feel like you're part of a fun community.
Sorry, I don't mean to be a walking advertisement, but that site was great for me, a lot of fun, no pressure, and I learned a LOT.
I used to do Tae Kwon Do (got to black belt) but after a year of black belt training the classes got so repetitive/boring that I quit.
My friend goes to a new studio and I just sent them an email with some questions so hopefully that will work out.
It will give me a hobby, get me out of the house, maybe make some new friends but if not at least I will get some excersice (which I really need because I am out of shape) and it will hopefully help the depression and stuff.
Thanks again for all your good suggestions
