Keep The Alter Of Private Prayer Burning

"The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out."

Keep the altar of private prayer burning. This is the very life of all piety. The sanctuary and family altars borrow their fires here, there- fore let this burn well. Secret devotion is the very essence, evidence, and barometer, of vital and experimental religion.
Burn here the fat of your sacrifices. Let your closet seasons be, if possible, regular, frequent, and undisturbed. Effectual prayer availeth much. Have you nothing to pray for? Let us suggest the Church, the ministry, your own soul, your children, your relations, your neighbours, your country, and the cause of God and truth throughout the world. Let us examine ourselves on this important matter. Do we engage with lukewarmness in private devotion? Is the fire of devotion burning dimly in our hearts? Do the chariot wheels drag heavily? If so, let us be alarmed at this sign of decay. Let us go with weeping, and ask for the Spirit of grace and of supplications. Let us set apart special seasons for extraordinary prayer. For if this fire should be smothered beneath the ashes of a worldly conformity, it will dim the fire on the family altar, and lessen our influence both in the Church and in the world.
The text will also apply to the altar of the heart. This is a golden altar indeed. God loves to see the hearts of His people glowing towards Himself. Let us give to God our hearts, all blazing with love, and seek His grace, that the fire may never be quenched; for it will not burn if the Lord does not keep it burning. Many foes will attempt to extinguish it; but if the unseen hand behind the wall pour thereon the sacred oil, it will blaze higher and higher. Let us use texts of Scripture as fuel for our heart's fire, they are live coals; let us attend sermons, but above all, let us be much alone with Jesus.

She doesn't care who takes offense or what anyone else wants or believes. This "drena" person is the worst sort of "christian"....a bible thumping, non listening wolf in sheep's clothing.

BTW, the last time I read from my Bible, I was led to believe God wanted sincerity and a contrite heart in His followers, not lies.

Ps 34:17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

I'm not bashing the poster. I support her/him as I am Christian too. I just know how these kinds of posts go in the Depression area and many take exception for whatever reason. I don't know why they do because the non-believers only need to just ignore it and the believers can enjoy it. Unfortunately some of the non-believers will attack this post for whatever reason instead of just ignoring it. But I have to say, telling someone they have a demonic look in their eyes wasn't very nice of you. It certainly brings into question the sincerity of your post and the integrity of your Christian faith.

i do apologize daisylou. you are "atheist" bashing me. Next time you see a Bible based post just skip over it as if its none of your concern. everything posted here is not for you. everything is not for me. i skip over the stuff i don't like instead of sending in complaints to ds or posting ugly remarks on the topics. i don't like for people to get kicked out of here. you are able to post all the negative bashing against me that you wish, but remember this is not an atheist site just for your liking. skip over my stuff and post your own topics. i am puzzled as to why atheists bash christians here. depression for some is a spiritual matter.

Drenna....if you believe depression is a spiritual matter then I find it a strange thing for you to be on a depression forum. Take your depression to the alter and do the work you need to do. I take offense that you tell someone they have a demonic look in their eyes and then find that humorous. You will know them by the deeds they do....

1) I posted an innocent post for the christians here.

If I were a weak easily offended christian, I would be totally offended by everything this atheist said. But since I'm not, I'll continue posting christian topics for the believers here.

How could Daisy possibly know what I am thinking? Why would she even care? I'm not here to please everybody. I can't possibly do that.

And now you, nanoe, are offended because of what I said to an atheist who, in my opinion, sounds sarcastic and atheist bashing. She just said that God hates me which is totally contrary to what I am reading in my Bible.

I believe as a Christian, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard. Not get in the mud with someone because they are an athiest and then, write lol, at our sinful comment. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

I think her eyes show laughter. So, since you are all for it...there ya go, more in common than you thought. The problem with your laughter is that you said something mean and then laughed about it. That is scary to me.
