Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
When you're in that state, everything that happens is interpreted from that state, and it becomes self-fulfilling. Everything you do comes from that place. We push people away by appearing weak and parasitic. We humiliate ourselves by becoming hysterical. It's all in our minds.
Unfortunately.
It's not deliberate. It may be situational, it may be genetic. It may be chemical or intellectual. it is what it is. It's a starting point to grow from is what it is. It's a position of not understanding reality, not understanding our impact on our situation. Not understanding other people's points of view.
The internet is a wonderful place, becasue we find out what people really think. it's important not to stifle self expression, especially the self-expression of those we vehemently disagree with, because those points of view force us to think, and grow, and become more than we were before. If Descartes needed proof of other people's existence in this world, it is there in the shocks they give us and the discoveries we make due to their input.
Never shut people down. Put up with their uncomfortable ideas. hate it, but let it in. Because not all people have depression. And why is that?
The inertia that Bridgie101 speaks of is at the crux of depression. Fighting it, instead of giving into it, is paramount. I'm not saying it's easy, but you certainly can't be a coward about it. It's tough being tough on yourself, but that's what you have to do to push through it. Staying inert and depressed can be comforting for many, because it's what they know, and feeling sorry for oneself feels good, and at the very least it's stimulation.
I'm going to say something radical: food, food intolerances, and a poor diet causes gut inflammation, and gut inflammation can exacerbate and even ignite depressive thoughts. The saying, "you are what you eat," couldn't be more true. Eating well, stopping the negative thoughts via simple distractions, removing oneself from toxic environments, and giving oneself a pat on the back for the smallest accomplishment, can help everyone who feels depressed, feel less depressed. A negative attitude combined with a lazy disposition, is your worst enemy.
:D
That eating thing though @Lenoire - I think you are so right. There is so much you can do with eating healthy. And there's a scientist from Dunedin (NZ) who has done studies into bombarding people with micronutrients, in very high doses, and how that is having a better effect, she says, than antidepressants over time. I know my multivitamin makes a difference to me.
