Really sorry you did not get the job. I know you really wanted to move on from where you are just now.
You have accomplished so much and now it seems like one mistake is getting in your way.
I think I would try to include the misdemeanor in the application with an explanation, at least that way you can feel honest and not have to defend against anyone finding out later. I think you will feel better.
Apply for another job, no not just one apply for several. Don't just try again beat this problem's ass. Apply for ten jobs.
You know you can do this, you have managed to excel in education while being a single parent, that is recommendation enough.
Do not let one mistake when you were 18 define you.

Sorry you are going through this. Have you talked with an attorney to see if you can have record 'expunged'? If not it may be worth your while to consult with one.

Since when did companies start asking about Misdemeanors? I know they ask about Felonies which I can understand but not the other. Did it even allow you room to explain? I'm sorry you didn't get the position but quite frankly, I would not have divulged a misdemeanor either. . My last one was a speeding ticket at age 18. And that would keep me from getting a job? Actually that is right! In the UK I think a misdemeanor is taken off your record after 5 years. It might well be worth asking about.

thanks, wish I could just up and move to the UK, or just another state, but I am the only child and parents are aging and child is senior in school, so not as easy as it sounds, they certainly arent' going anywhere except to older age or to that place we all go in the end, and I don't want that to ever happen for them, isn't that selfish of me? but is small towns where one has to reach for whatever they can to tell themselves they are better than someone else it matters way fucking more than it ever should. just an example of my hell, my child came in and brought me flowers, I know she was feeling badly for me. while we're trying to have some time talking the damn phone rings (I'm oncall, prt of reason I want to be rid of this fucking job) and it's some numbnut who is arguing with her mom over her kids. She doesn't even know her damn self who is suppose to be the caretaker for her kids (according to social services) but wants me to drop what I'm doing and drive for an hour to come and set things straight with her mom. WTF ever bitch! you don't know what the arrangements are, what do you think I am? a freaking psychic with a working crystal ball? that's not an emergency! and it was certainly not reason enough for me to miss the few moments I had to spend with my own child before she had to go to work herself.
