Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I love my children more than anything in life, but I also had my first at twenty.....which is so very young, but in many respects I feel that he saved my life.
I also worry that I may pass along my defective genes (for lack of a better term). I also fear my children growing up in a world that seems to be going to hell in a hand basket. Sometimes I regret having children at all, and had I waited until I was older (and considerably wiser) I'd probably have opted to stay child-less.
Meh... I'm rambling.
If you're depression gets so severe that at times you cannot function, may be best to wait until you are mentally capable of handling it. I don't know though.... for some, being a parent is what gives them the drive to live better.
Good luck to you :)
Not impossible for those with disabilities or conditions, but some extra help might be needed.
peace to you~
1st pregnancy in general throws you hormones into chaos so if you think you are having trouble now just wait until you have no control... + I would think you would probably be at a higher risk for postpartum depression too.. and if you are on meds that is another issue... many you can't take while pregnant without risking the baby...
now picture this... you are tired, depressed and you have this tiny thing that never shuts up and all it does is want want want... once you have a kid you have to put them 1st... now that means if you are feeling down you have to just suck it up and put their needs 1st... so yes having a child is hard... and if you want to be a good parent then you should make sure you are in the best possible place emotionally and financially before you bring your child into the world... not just decide you want one now because you do because that is a selfish choice.
seriously yes its hardest job in world (and i only have one) but i also think it saved my life. i swear i would have committed suicide without having child cos when i had her i knew that i had to stop being so selfish and that this person depended on me==to be alive and responsible etc. so it actually helped me. shes 14 now and so doesnt need me all time but still helps cos i dont give in to depression as long as i have her. yes i get depressed still but no longer have luxury of taking to my bed for days on end and stuff. life HAS to go on when u have kid so if u cant imagine doing that then no---ur far from ready
My Dad told me, "You never stop being a parent. There are no sick days and you always have to stand tall."
This from a southern gentleman who raised 2 daughters alone in the 60's and beyond. He proved to be right!! As always.
Being a parent has been a great challenge, reward. I love my kids so much it hurts often. I'm at the phase now, wanting grandchildren someday.
My Grandma told me to be patient on all topics. I miss her. Very wise advice.
So, hang tough, you will know when the time is right. Single parenting is really hard. When you are in a lifelong relationship and have the man to help you hold down the commitment, might be the best time to have children.
I am so effed up, I decided years ago that I would never have kids. Adopt...maybe. After I can look back and have several "normal" years behind me. Not a moment before.
I won't subject an innocent child to...me. Also, there is an incredible amount of disease that runs in my family, most of it proven to be genetic. No way. A lot of these cycles, they stop with me.
That's just me, though. I know people who have quit drugs, quit (excessive) drinking, quit committing crimes, all for their kids. So it goes both ways.
Best of luck on whatever you choose, it's a big decision.
