Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
i suffered from a nervous break down 9 years ago. and up until now, i wasnt able to recover. I've exeprienced breakdown after a breakdown for the past years. It was accompanied by depression and anxiety. In addition to that i am basically a highly sensitive person and im suffering from oc tendencies and a low self esteem too. i knew i gotta have work because im broke but the anxiety is getting me. i am particularly negative with the thigns that i plan to and i often find myself stressed when im doing responsibilities such as getting a job or exercising. I honestly feel hopeless, and i cant see a light in the end of the tunnel. I am not sure what i want anymore career wise. I want to try but i think that the end result would be useless. Im poor at taking risk. I want to start again and fix this but i dont know how.

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

I had ect and it helped me get my life back after a 10 year battle with depression. It's not a cure. I still need medicine but I can finally work again.
I had a nervous breakdown in 2009 and it was very complete. Smashed everything. And so I have had to build up from zero since then.
I think it took another couple of years for me to see the light though. I had to throw away a LOT of my beliefs and expectations. What is a good enough job? The one you can get. Get that job. Just get it. It is fine to start at macdonalds. It is fine to clean the streets for your local council. Whatever you can get: get it. Starting at the bottom is starting.
When you get a job things inside of you change, that you don't expect to change. When you are working at a low enough level to cope after a nervous breakdown, this does help heal you because you can 'get it right' relatively easily so there's less stress. More money and less stress... this is a start and a step in the right direction.
For me I had to ask myself where I wanted to end up, and if I wanted to get there, what I had to manage to do, to get there. Did I want to be living in a dumpster when I was 65? Okay so what was I going to have to do to avoid that? I couldn't see how I would get to having my own home by 65 when I started this journey but every step I take along the way shifts what I can see from here. My choices change and improve every step I take.
So just take your first step. Get that job cleaning streets or whatever. That's the first rung of this new post breakdown ladder. Have some grit, grab a handhold and start climbing. Once you start climbing you will start to enjoy it.
:) you can get better.
