Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm really struggling at the moment. I have a lot of chronic stressors in my life and I'm afraid I'm in a period where my stress is so much higher than my internal resources available to deal with things. I feel so exhausted, and I know my feelings are and thoughts are distorted. I don't have any motivation or interest in doing much of anything, and even thinking about doing things sometimes is even too much. I cry for no reason, daily. I don't want to kill myself but I do think about death now weekly. Wishing I was dead, or looking forward to sleep simply because I don't want to be conscious. I don't know what else to say about this, except of course I'm assuming you all can identify with where I'm at. This is a marked change in my personality. I feel like I'm caught in a rip-tide and I keep swimming like mad for the surface only to be pulled down and shook around until I don't even know which end is up anymore.

bubble baths, walking, etc. whatever gets you through each day.
My family has bee through a lot. I had been in an abusive marriage for 15 years, and I was lucky enough to get out marry a wonderful man, but then we had a home invasion and he was stabbed and almost died. He developed PTSD and my 15-year-old daughter who witnessed the stabbing became mentally ill as well, and I believe the stabbing was an environmental trigger for her disease. My hard-working husband went back to work 4 months after the stabbing and then was immediately injured at work and received a TBI. He'd been attacked by a patient where he worked and his PTSD became very severe. It's been hard to treat because for some reason psych people like to say his symptoms are neurological, and the neuro folks always say to go to psych people, so no one really wants to treat a complex case like his (what we really need is like a neuro-psych specialist, but they are few and far between.
So, I have been a caregiver for 2 people with serious, chronic health conditions, and I got burnout, bigtime. My DH and I got a home health aide for my DH, which is awesome, but right now I'm so depressed I can't even appreciate it. I've continuously tried to get back into the workforce and my family members health conditions have made that difficult. Right now I'm trying a work from home position which I hope will be the answer to my job-related issues, but I'm a contract agent and it takes time to build a clientele (teaching English Emersion to International students-I'm a teacher and a social worker by profession). So I am trying to put things in place to make my life less stressful, but day-to-day I am not functioning well right now.
My DH and daughter have both made suicide attempts, so I know what that feels like as a loved one of the suicidal person, so an attempt is OFF THE TABLE, for me, plain and simple, but I still wish for death just because I can't get myself to believe that my constant struggling, stress, and emotional pain will ever let up otherwise with the kind of life I feel trapped in. My DD and DH, none of it is their fault, but their conditions are very challenging. It's also hard to watch and be so limited in what I can do about it-it increases that feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. I feel a bone, soul-crushing fatigue like if I have to jump through one more of life's hoops I'll lose it for good.
