Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
im 36, my name is Amber, I am from the southern US, married with no kids. I have struggled with depression since I was 5. I do have Bipolar Disorder too but mainly depression. I didn’t start seeking out treatment until I was 24. I have struggled tremendously and have had some painful experiences and some of my depressive episodes were downright excruciating. Anhedonia, insomnia, hyposomnia (going through that right now), Catatonia, attempted suicide, suicide ideation, dissacotiation, a 9 day horrid experience of going to the behavioral unit one time during a depressive episode, loss of friends, agoraphobia (going through it somewhat right now), inability to work, social anxiety, and my longest depression was well from what I remember about 18 months and of course I’ve had long depressions since too. I’ve had a rough go of it my entire life. I have my husbands support. He has put up with a lot. I have partially treated depression right now and it is leaving me very unmotivated. At least I am keeping up a hygiene routine through it because I’ve had depression were I couldn’t even manage to brush my teeth! I have seen the darkness of this horrible thing. I am sure a lot of y’all can relate to me. I am using my light box right now to help plus essential oils. All the antidepressants I’ve tried have given me bad effects and I can’t be on the others due to risk of mania. I’m on Lamictal for right now which helps some. Been on it two years.

After work, I am taking a defensive driver course today. It is online and only cost $10 and it may save me as much as $300 on my car insurance. I got the information from my car insurance company. Little known fact about me is that I drive with two feet.

One day in August many years ago, the strings to our hearts were woven together in a magical and sacred way. They remained tied together though they were taken on a journey fraught with challengingdemons serpents and deep wounds. But still, they stayed tied together. They were torn apart and like a wound that leaves a scarthey cannot heal. They are broken. Ripped, callously slashed. The heart...

I am glad you have joined us, and there are other DS Groups dedicated to some of your issues ... besides Depression.
Since medication has not done much for you, have you considered ECT or TMS?? You might discuss this with an appropriate doctor.
Good luck to you. I am sure you will find support from us DS people.
I’m very sorry you are going through such a difficult time. I hope this forum will be an encouragement and beneficial to your healing. I’m glad you reached out and you also have your husband’s support.
I pray that things will get better for you. Take care and God bless. Please update us.
Welcome. I think that many of us can relate in one way or another to what you are going through (and have been through). It can be hard to keep your chin up when you're in the middle of a depressive episode and lack motivation. I agree with WV that the medical piece is important (and it sounds like you are on meds with partial remission). I've been hearing a lot about some alternative treatments also.
But having and keeping support is important as well. You'll find that people here are kind and supportive. And, YES, keep us all updated on how you are going.
We are here to support you.
Hope you start feeling better!!!
