Part of life is what happens to you and another how you deal with it. Here is an inspirational story.
Samarth J Rao HAS WON THE PHYSICALLY DISABLED SECTION OF THE WORLD JUNIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE DISABLED!!
The 3rd World Junior Chess Championship for the disabled took place from July 9th to 15th in the Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA. Sixteen players from eight countries under the age of 20 took part in the event. Samarth J Rao secured an overall second place with 5.5/7 after seven rounds and won the physically disabled section of the tournament. Samarth's father Sri Jagadish Rao B S kindly shares pictures from the venue with us.
Samarth's story is one of indomitable will and spirit. Born prematurely he suffered from neonatal jaundice for 1 month after birth, and when just 4 months old, he also contracted pneumonia. Presently, he is affected by Cerebral Palsy, due to which he is unable to stand or walk independently. He is also unable to talk. He has no body balance and has more than 75% disability. Samarth is fully dependent on others for his daily activities. But none of these have kept him away from the game of sixty-four squares which he loves so much, and today his dedication has borne fruits.
The 19-year-old has also received the Dennis Kow Scholarship for Rs.51,000 via ChessBase India foundation this year. You can read more about him and his inspiring struggles in this article: https://chessbase.in/…/Samarth-Rao-wins-Dennis-Kow-Scholars…?
