Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
You almost CERTAINLY have some kind of post traumatic stress manifesting itself.
I am a war veteran, and survivor of a "fifties" childhood. When I finally discovered EMDR therapy, after 50 years of in and out major depression and suicide attempts, I got relief. The events you describe seem TO ME, would respond to EMDR treatment.
Google up Dr. Francine Shapiro of the EMDR institute, and read about it. The explanation there is better than the one I can give you here. Remember, you are trying to help yourself. You came here to our community to see about healing. You can find lots of help here.
Remember: Y. A. H. O. O. You Always Have Other Options.
This is the beginning place, if you want it to be. THIS DAY can be the one that starts you on the Road of Happy Destiny.
Welcome to our community of healing helpers. We are pleased to have you among us.
Not all depressed people need medication (that is up to you and your doctor) but we can all benefit from therapy. Therapy is to us what diet control is to a diabetic!
I would say focus on finding a good therapist, one who focuses on YOU even if that means moving you into a type of therapy they do not practice! Work with therapists and doctors to zero in on your questions about meds.
gentle hugs, and welcome to DS!
