Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hi Everyone,
Have any of you had parents who are demeaning and would basically tell you to suck it up if you told them you may be suffering from depression? Lately, I've realized behaviors that I didn't have when I lived on my own. I moved in with my mom a couple years ago because my grandmother was dying and she wanted the emotional support; I was also finishing up my MBA and it was nice to cut back on work and focus on my school work more. I think now this living situation has become toxic. Every time I start feeling on the up and up she ends up saying something terrible and it puts me right back at the contemplating suicide mind frame. I'd hate to cut ties with my mom and say "you're too toxic for me, I can't be around you anymore." I already ignore my dad because of his racist islamophobia. I can't stand his backing of other cultures and left wing extremist attitude. I don't want to be one of those people that have regrets when their parents die but I can't keep living in thoughts of suicide. Anyone have any advice? I don't have insurance, are there any free resources out there for people with depression?

It's been some time since my last post...sorry. I've been going through a challenging time with the sale of my home, purchase of a condo and my adult asperger son that lives with me. I've had days where I couldn't get out of bed, days where I stayed in my pj's and days where all I managed to do was eat, drink fluids and take care of my Sweet Mia kitty. Sweet Mia came to me from a shelter about...

If I come to DS and it won't do anything when I click "Login", I go to a post, click and then click "Leave a Reply". Then it will let me log in.Of course, sometimes DS just goes to "Error 504". Then I can't log in.

For Free help, or maybe a 1.00 donation, you can try alanon, this is mainly for people with alcoholic spouses or family members, but Not Required. They use a technique called Detaching with Love....not accepting the negative toxic behaviors, and continuing to love the person.
In addition, type in your town's name and mental health community support groups or what ever wording to find a free group for depression/suicide support...usually there are phone numbers you can call.
Also, type in 211 and your state name, this will bring up a page with all social services, it's called United Way/Infoline...best to you, ml
Being around toxic people, period, including parents, is like thinking you can live in some cult and not be brainwashed cause you know in advance its some evil cult.
Little by little you will get worn down---without you even knowing it.
At age 58, "thanks" enough to my parents, i'm alone on good friday, depressed about maybe having to put my cat to sleep monday----with my cat as the only friend/family in my life.
time for you to get selfish, so you dont end up like me at 58.
you can only change yourself---you cant change others; hard enough for a person to change themself, forget changing others.
As for cheap mental health care, most Cities/Counties have Mental Health Care through their Social Services Department. The cost generally depends on your income, it can be a sliding scale or a set small office visit fee.
