I've dealt with self imposed depression for the last seven years and I have made some positive progress. I've learned how to avoid falling into the depths of depression with positive thought. It took a long time to learn how to do this. However I still have many residual problems left over by the years of depression. I lack motivation.
I never want to take care of business. When I'm not working I tend to just want to lay on the couch all day. I don't want to clean the kitchen or mow the lawn. I just let my responsibilities go. I miss so much work that I face bankruptcy and I don't seam to care. I stayed home from work yesterday for no other reason than I just wanted to stay curled up like a fetus in the womb on the couch all day.
I've let everything go. My health, my bills, my family and I keep hoping for death. I'm 52 and I feel that I have nothing to look forward to. Its as if I'm an animal in a cage just existing for some unknown purpose.
I've tried to have faith in an attempt to rejuvenate my interest in life. For months I studied the Bible until I simply became bored with it so that didn't work.
Does anyone have any ideas on how a person can become interested in life again? I've given up on relationships, I've given up on my career I've given up on my spirituality and now I'm just waiting for my expiration date and hoping it comes soon. I don't believe that God intended for people to live their lives the way I do.

I also have a pet. I have a dog and it does help with the depression some. It was on the advice of my therapist and another dr. so I got a cocker spaniel at the human society.
