Tonight I told my sister something I was meant to keep to myself. My parents who I love more than anything entrusted me with something and now I have betrayed them. I devolged the info thinking it would help her understand a family situation and it only served to make her upset. Now I worry that somewhere along the line it will be blurted out and all hell will break loose..I wish I could sew my lips up:(

Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ. Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...

Secrets don't work in families. Nobody can be expected not to tell their spouse a thing you told them, and nobody can be expected not to tell a sibling. Family rules are 'no secrets' rules. Famillies are destroyed by secrets. they all belong in the secret clubhouse together, not one of them outside knocking, and the rest of them giggling inside. All for one, one for all.
If mum and dad want to get all screwed up at you for telling just ask them who blabbed first?
If they can't keep a secret, why should you?
lol. Parents know perfectly well not to tell one child if they don't want all the kids to know. We learn very early on never to blab on dad - kid will go straight to dad. Never to blab on wife - kid will go straight to wife.
Any child worth his salt won't play the secrets game.
Your parents love you, but they took this risk, and they're grownups, so they can be deemed to have already considered that you would blab. Maybe they hoped you would blab in such a way that your sister was sworn to secrecy against telling them, and therefore would have time to digest something she otherwise would go off half cocked about?
Who knows. :D

Perhaps the same can be said for sisters who are very close!
Work with your sister to keep it from traveling beyond the 2 of you.
Besides, such a secret can hurt a person who has no outlet for it.
