Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

But if someone is not of sound mind, then how can anyone agree to it?
And if they have depression they are not of sound mind.
They can stay in a state of depression for a year or ten years depending on whether they crack the code or not; but once they crack the code then they're away laughing. So it's like you asking us all to take people off life support. They're not living now, they're not having a good time now, but you can't get my consent, for one, to take yourself off life support. Not when the future is right there in front of you, a doctor's visit, or a medication, or a light bulb moment away from you. You don't know what's in front of you but the rest of us do. And depression is all about making the horrible now appear to be "forever" in your own mind. A week feels like 10 yrs. You've got no perspective and no judgement. Why would anyone think you knew what you were doing?
You won't get the consent of people who have been through it and come out the other side. You just won't. They will tell you to wait. They will tell you to try this, or that. They will not prop up an unsound decision caused by an unsound mind.
It's not a thing that will ever happen with grown adults. We're not going to give you that kind of 'permission'.
It could be you go see your doctor. It could be you get a new counsellor. but what you do have to do is fight your way out of this quicksand. And see it as quicksand: and see it as surmountable.
heaps of us on here have surmounted this. I value my life more than I can say but I spent a number of years not.
You have to work out what is in your own best interests, and do it. Suicide is never in your own best interests unless you're 100% sure someone is just coming right now to torture you violently to death.
You have to learn how to lives tuff down. You have to learn how to say "that was yesterday, today is another day."
Talk about the things that are bothering you. YOu'll find out the rest of us have been there too. Sometimes we have advice. Sometimes we just have a worse story. :D Always you will feel better, and realise you're the same as everyone else.
:) Just trust in yourself, and fight for yourself.
See this is the absolute lack of self that we get with depression. We are all tiptoey around other people. Sod other people: what do YOU want? What do you want out of life?
I had to learn to be more selfish. I have slowly slowly learned to say what I want, to cry, to demand what I think is fair. I'm 46. Don't wait that long. :)
My daughter had a friend. he'd say sorry almost constantly. In the end I told the kids they were allowed to hit him whenever he said sorry. :D
Heh. Not hard - but it made the point. He wasn't allowed to say sorry unless he had caused someone to bleed, lose a tooth or break a bone.
Toomuch you're important, and how you feel is important. And you have a right to say how you feel, and what you need. It's okay to do it. It's more than okay: it's important.
So no more sorrying and start 'I want!' ing.
I want to eat chocolate without getting fat.
I want to grow a garden in my back yard.
I want a tardis.
I want to be able to fly.
I want another piece of chicken.
Now: you just said 'deserve'. What is deserving? Tell me what that word means to you, and tell me who does deserve anything they want.
:)
