Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
OH ... you mean good FOR you.
Yes .... if you need them.
For some kinds which are down to the situation, counselling or coaching can be better because there is an external problem that is causing the depression and needs to be fixed or accepted in some way. In those cases anti-depressants are less helpful.
Alternatively if the depression is coming from within chemically then you need to be on an anti-depressant and counselling won't really help.
This explains why you will see articles that say anti-depressants don't work and others that say counselling doesn't work - it depends on what kind of depression you are looking at.
To add to the confusion, situational depression can then lead to the more chemical kind, e.g sometimes in cases of bereavement.
I think you are 16? You would I think need to talk to a doctor and get a view on the best way forward for you.
Antidepressants are wonderful for the people that they help...but they don't help everyone. And sometimes it takes some time to find out what works for you.
Some people will talk down about them and call them "crutches". Well what I say...is that most of us don't use something to make our lives better. For example, most of us don't walk around barefoot. If shoes or an antidepressant is what it takes to make life easier. Than I'm going to wear shoes. Wouldn't you?
Are you 16? Have you talked to your parents? If not your parents, can you talk to the counselors at your school?
