I've learnt to be wary of days that start out 'great'. It usually only lasts a few hours and then I'm so down. I can fee it starting. i'm already sad and so worn out i don't have the energy to do anything. but i have to find it somehow, my son needs me.

Try to hold onto that feeling. I know it can be very up and down sometimes. It is a disappointment when you think you are getting better and then find yourself back in a very depressed state. I don't understand why that happens though it happens to me too. It's hard being depressed and caring for children but as you say you do somehow pull through to at least meet their basic needs. Not fun for a child either to see their parent depressed and even though you try to hide it, well they know. You can only be honest and explain to them you are not well and are depressed even though they may not understand exactly what that means. Huggs to you.

Fairiedust is right...try to hang on to that feeling of great. Hell..even consider yourself blessed to have moments like that. Even if it is only there a couple of hours. I understand the feelings about your son needing you. It is so hard to feel low and want to cry or lay down when we have children. I have bipolar type 2. I deal with more depressions than manias. I have 4 kids in tow and I missed out on so much with them. What I did learn over the past couple of years is that rather than feel guilt or exclude them from me during my depressive moments...I included them. I learned to put on a happy face around my kids. When I couldnt and they would ask what is wrong..I would just say a headache or virus. I learned to include them in my bed. We play board games and watch movies in my bed when I cant seem to get out of it. To this day...my little girl calls this quality time with mommy. Every night from 7 to 830 it is girl time in my bed. We pop popcorn and watch music videos or kid shows on the computer. We somehow managed to make my down moments a bonding time for us. Now even when I feel great and dont want to lay down..lol...she commits me to my room and time with her. Somehow I learned to adapt my kids and myself to the lowest of moments where they arent worried for mom and we are enjoying the time with each other. Kids are resilient and enjoy any time we give. Making a child smile when we feel like crying isnt impossible. Good luck mom.
