Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I have been suffering from deep depression in the last couple of months. I am trying hard to get through it, to forget, to distract myself by something else like reading or going out, but it does not work out for me. I really don't know what to do anymore. I need for help.
So, I am going to tell you about my story, because it might be useful for anyone who would like to help/advise me what I need to do to find my way out of this depression.
I was born in Iraq, 27 years ago. I lived my first four years in Iraq (my homeland), then moved with my parents to another country, called Yemen in 1994, for economical causes. I have experienced so much pain and hurt in my childhood in Yemen. At house, my father was treating me so violently/cruelly by beating me for not less than ten years straight. He was punishing me with any simple mistake I had made by excessive beating, such as kicking, boxing, and using sticks. At school, my teachers did the same and were violent too. I was only five years old when I began experiencing this terrible pain and fear in my life. It lasted for the next ten years until I grew up and I could defend myself against anybody. So, I never had peace and happiness in my childhood. This is the first half of my story.
In 2003, I came back home (Iraq), where I had to experience a different aspect of fear this time, represented by war. I suffered so much because of war horrific scenes/situations in (2005-2008 and 2013-until now). I have lost many friends and people I really loved. Thousands of people have been getting killed here in the last fourteen years. I saw a lot of killed people frequently, so much bloods and so much death. It is really horrible and scary. I myself could have lost my life in a car bombing a few years ago. Only, a few minutes (less than five minutes) separated me from a definite death. I was walking down a street, and suddenly, I heard a very loud voice of explosion. I turned around to see tens of people thrown on the ground, bleeding and dying. That was only one of many horrible and scary situations I have had to go through. All these years, I didn't realize that I was being destroyed/broken. But, in this year, I have begun experiencing depression and anxiety. I have tried so hard to help myself to overcome this depression, but I admit I have failed. I wonder if there are any other things I might try to help me. This is the first time ever I have talked about my story openly, because I think that I have nothing else to lose, like if my life is finished. I am feeling so lonely and need for anyone to talk and listen to me. I am so tired of my life and really don't find meaning in life anymore.
Thanks in advance to everybody who would take the time to read and try to help.............

It's National Doughnut Day!Which three would you like? (never mind the calories, fat, or sugar content; just go with what you would pick if none of that mattered and whatever health issues you might have that would keep you from eating one in real life can be cast aside for this exercise as well... have at it!)

You must be an angel because , I have a book about abuse, and it says only angels are able to live through abuse that goes on for long periods of time. My heart goes out to you, have you finally gotten out of that household so you are safe now? like all the rest say don't give up on yourself, it is so hard to survive and become a survivor of abuse. yet not to suffer other things, is totally impossible. We all deal with abuse in our own way, ways we don't even realize are happening at times. Some times we have deep depression, some people cut themselves, others have eating disorders. Some people react poorly to others, without knowing. You are trying to do the best you can with your circumstance. I remember I literally hid from all others, when I first got away from my boyfriend who abused me and my son . After being under ground in a safe house, I tried to stay positive for my son, around him, but when he was at school I withdrew into my shell, not going anywhere, not talking to anyone. I was scared to trust people. I knew I had to try hard to do things with my son without showing my fear, so our life involved watching movies, reading books, going to librairies to get books. I ordered food in so that I wouldn't have to go to stores. One day at my doctors the secretary said, aren't you mike's mom, I said yes, she told me her daughter was in his class. We talked for awhile, she invited me out for years I never went but slowly I allowed her to get close to me. We became very good friends.it is very hard to live with depression, I hope that wherever you are you can get counselling, or have the chance to get books and read about depression. I am not saying this helps everyone but some people find help and strength from it. Others get strength from their religious leaders and praying. I did not. Because I could not trust them. There are people here who will support you , and care about you, and some people share , sometimes sharing helps others. I hope you find this. There are other ways to help with depression, journaling, drawing, singing, praying. It takes a long time to heal , so don't be hard on yourself. Big hugs to you, You have helped others by sharing. Thank you.I hope we have helped you. thank you for trusting us all and sharing your stories. That is an amazing step. I am here for you anytime . Casey
