Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
However, that is not the most important thing for you right now, you emotional state IS the most important and THAT is what you need to be dealing with. You need to realize that depressive thoughts are intense. The loss of enjoyment in anything is hard to deal with, but it is not life-threatening. Remember that you did, at one time, enjoy some activities and some hobbies. Trust me, they will return, or better yet, make yourself get involved with them whether they bring you pleasure or not. Just doing is better than just thinking. Often times doing is what can cause a change in your thinking, not vice versa. So reinvest yourself in you activities even though you do not feel like it. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself, is to do something for someone else. The appreciation they feel towards you can be very rewarding. So do unto others...
There is no cure....yet.
It doesn't help to ask "Why me?" Depression and anxiety happen to all kinds of people all the time. It may be in your genetic structure, as it is in mine, or it may be due to the circumstances you are living with, or most likely a combination of the two. But the fact is, it IS you, and asking why is not beneficial since there is no good answer, in fact, there isn't an answer at all. It just is. But it can be better, you know that deep down.
So stay in the game and keep talking to us. Tell us more about your situation so we can offer more directed help. Most of us know exactly what you are feeling because we have been there. Here at DS you are among friends who care and want to offer support.
Take care, BB
Yes medication (some medications) cause weight gain and that is why I reject so many of them. BUT don't listen to all you hear, they affect different people in different ways, side effects are not all the same.
Give Paxil a try and if you think you are gaining or eating more just go back to your doc and tell him!
After 22 years I have learned to say NO I wont take it, but for me it took a lot of experimenting, I hope it wont be the same for you x,
