I have lived in Florida since October of 2006. I have never been through a hurricane in Florida. We have had a few up in Connecticut. I live in South West Florida & I have been for the past 11 years. This is the 1st hurricane that I will be going through. I am scared out of my mind. We spent the day putting shutters on the the house & boarding up the house. I am hoping we make it through allright. I am going out tomorrow & going to try and get more water & food and hope to have enough stuff to get by. This is a scary thing to go through with my 1 year old son. My husband has been through many before & he said he is even a little worried about Irma. We are hoping to make it through it with little damage, but we aren't holding our breath. Please keep your thoughts & prayers for us & all families that are in Irma's Path.

So I see that Marco Island is under mandatory evacuation. My brother's up here (Md.) and thankfully not part of those poor souls who are trying to get out. But I guess his home down there will be wiped out. Bummer. :-(

That is good that you are preparing for the hurricane Irma. I remember hurricane Charley that came to Florida surprisingly because hurricane Charley wasn't supposed to hit Florida but it did and it was category 4 and it was strong. Be safe and God bless you and your family.

I hope you are okay. Hurricanes are so scary, aren't they? I live in Houston and we are still reeling from the after effects of Harvey. What a disaster it is. If you're told to evacuate, get out. Don't mess around. I have family in Florida and I'm so worried for them because they're not evacuating, they're just moving inland. I pray for your and for the safety of all of Florida. Be smart. Be safe. And please, please let us know you're okay once you have the opportunity. Texas is praying for Florida.

Take care of yourself; I lived in FL a long time ago and was there just before one of the major hurricanes. A good reason I stopped living there.

Brother (Marco Island) said he has concrete structure and storm shitters and is worried mostly by storm surge as they're only 12' above sea level.

Hey everyone. Irma has passed. We got through with some damage but we survived. Our lanai was damaged and the fence in our backyard was damaged. The entire lanai screen needs to be replaced as does the fence. Our AC is not working and we aren't quite sure why. We lost power here & there internet went down for about 24 hours but is now up. We made out lucky. I just wanted to give everyone an update.

We are fine also. We only lost power for about 24 hours. It was scary but I am glad it is over.
