Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My advice is, actually, don't focus on dragging yourself out. First, accept yourself as you are. Depression it's a symptom, not the dis-ease itself. The source could be something in your life or it could be a chemical imbalance. Certainly seek professional help, as well as things that make you happy, but don't make yourself feel worse by stigmatizing yourself as "wrong" because you're not cheerful. Our culture is focused on happiness to the point of pathology....sadness is an equal part of life and should be valued as such. It it's with us for reasons just as good as those to be happy.
