Ok...long story short, I am the black sheep of our family. I am the first, and possibly the only one in our family to seek help with my depression. My parents have always been disappointed with me because I didn't seek a post secondary education (college or university) and in high school I just got mediocre grades (mostly C's and C-'s),whereas my sister always got A's in high school, went on to university and got her bachelors degree and then her masters degree and she is still studying to get her Phd. I got pregnant at 20 years old (i am now 45 and my naby hirl is 25 years old now)and did not marry the father, whereas my sister made sure she finished her education before she started having kids...basically she was considered the "good daughter" and I was treated as if I was the "bad daughter" even though my parents would NEVER ADMIT IT!! Anyways, fast forward to today... I am in a stable relationship with a man who I trust with my life and we have been living together for 6 years...and for the first time my parents really approve of this relationship...but the problem comes from the fact that my parents seem to like my boyfriend (common-law husband) more than they like me. My depression stems from all that history as well as them really liking my b/f and knowing how my parents think, I know that they are just waiting for the other shoe to drop and they are waiting for my b/f to "come to his senses and break it off with me. In short they are waiting for me to mess up the good thing that I have and they figure that it's only going to be a matter of time until he leaves me. I feel really hurt by all the attitude that I am getting from my family, and I find it very depressing to think about all of this, but what can I do to fix it??
My b/f and I have been through our ups and downs but I really feel he is ,my soul mate and I love him dearly, he is essentially my best friend, but I feel like this situation is affecting my relationship.
Sorry for rambling but I could really use some good advice to get me through this tough time in my life...I have even thought about taking my own life because of these issues, but have decided NOT to do because I know it would hurt my b/f very much!!
Any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

I found the only way I could survive was to severely limit the time I spent with my parents. I hadn't seen my mother 26 years before she died. It was what I had to do. Even talking on the phone was often just too much.
Have you tried AD's? That was what changed the game for me. As I became stronger on the Effexor (for me, a wonder-drug), I steadily became more empowered, and this new strength enabled me to assume more complete control over my life. It became easier for me to keep myself a safe distance away from my abusers (both physically and psychologically).
you said you know how they think.... maybe you shouldn't be so concerned with how they feel about other people, if they treat you ok.
They get to be who they are. They may have no idea how upset you
get -- they may not know how you think.
If you pay close attention, and there is a real hostility toward you, you could visit less often, not have anything planned ( a meal) so that you're stuck there for hours, and see if they appreciate you more. If not, you're a grown woman in a really good relationship who doesn't need her
parent's support, if they just aren't willing to give it. Their choice - your choice how you deal with it.
My brother, the Dr was star of the family. My parents also, showed some favoritism to boyfriends.I was very hurt and jealous. Prob because I needed so much more of their attention. My parents were so,caught up in their own emotions, they couldn't really support me in all things. To this day I feel great pain when I hear people being close to their parents. It is a grief I live with.
Do what's right for you and protect your emotions on every phone call, visit. We don't deserve to live in this kind of pain.
