The sad truth is, most people at your age have no idea what depression is and know even less when it comes to dealing with it. Most teenagers have trouble accepting something they don't understand.
I think Friend19 has the right idea in separating yourself from them and finding your own self worth. Don't let others be what you judge yourself by, you set your own standards and stay with them.
If this helps any, by the time you turn 25, some of those people may have their own issues to deal with and they will have a better understanding of you.
You're in high school. People in high school can be so shallow and cruel.
I had to distance myself from all of my family for that reason.
As for the boyfriend, you need a new one that will lift you up instead of bringing you down. I lived with one like that, I think it is their way of controlling us. Man, getting away from him made me feel so much better about myself and life!!!!!!! You'll need support, so stick with the group and try to find friends who are positive and a good influence on your life.
There is no way you can be a loser at 16. You may not believe it but you have yet to start living. Quit listening to them. When they start, just block what you hear out of your mind. It does not matter what they think of you, what matters is what you think of yourself.
And again, I would get rid of the boyfriend, you need someone that can lift you up and keep you there.
I do stand up for myself, but that doesn't matter to them. These people know I have issues and do their best to exploit them. I've seen therapists, I've talked to people, I've been through a load of self help stuff, I've taken anti-depressants, but after nearly 7 years of all this shit and nothing seeming to help at all I don't really know what I can do.
My boyfriend means well I think and he's always there for me to talk to and everything, it's just when his friends have a go that he doesn't do anything because he says it won't help. He doesn't seem to realise that I don't care if it doesn't make them stop, I just want him to show that he doesn't agree with them.
Clinical depression REQUIRES medical treatment. If you are not getting any, figure out how to get it.
Anxiety, if chronic, must be treated medically. If you are not getting any, figure out how to get it.
Self-Injury is a serious complex and needs medical treatment. Figure out how to get it.
Insomnia, if chronic, needs medical treatment.
Without treatment for these conditions, your situation will remain complex and something beyond what you can work out on your own.
and to WanderingVet, I am getting medical treatment for my insomnia and depression and it doesn't work. Drugs just don't work for some people and it seems I'm one of those people.
You know that thing, that you always wanted to do, but were afraid, well.....
Do it.
What have you got to lose?
If people don't support you, that is their problem, if people don't care, it is about them, not you. Enjoy life for yourself and I hope you find yourself happiness - and hopefully bring them with you.
I know for me, if someone turns up with an obsession - I love art, I make art, I love to create this because... then I will love to hear more.... you will find these people when you try to find happiness for yourself.
I doubt you are ENTIRELY drug resistant ... maybe, but I doubt it.
In any case ... there is 'treatment' of other types ... besides drug therapy ... and without EFFECTIVE treatment .. you can't overcome these problems. Furthermore, you need a pkg treatment plan that addresses all the issues ... they feed on each other ... and it is very complicated. You need a global plan that takes it ALL on.
