Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
PTSD from a Psych Stay is rare unless the Patient is there for a long extended period and the Staff is abusive. Pineapple was only there 2 days and the Staff wasn't abusive. She had to go through a couple rough things due to the reason she was there, "She said she had thoughts of killing herself." Anytime you go into a Psych Ward with suicidal thoughts they are going to search you with your clothes on and then as you take them off, to make sure that you have nothing with you that you can hurt yourself with. That's standard procedure, and it's not like a Prison strip search.
Anytime your in an Ambulance your going to be strapped down so that you don't fall off the stretcher, or come off the stretcher and attack the attendants....that's normal. As for putting you in a dark quiet room when you had a panic attack, if you're loud and disruptive, yes they will put you in a private time-out room so that you do not insight the other patients. They are not prepared manpower-wise to handle an uprising and people would get hurt.
So nothing that happened in that 2 days was out of the ordinary.
I think your reaction to hearing about a Psych hospital now is just simple worry/fear that your going to be placed back in one, and you don't want that, so it upsets you. Hopefully your doing better and not having Suicidal feelings anymore. Because if your having serious Suicidal Ideations there is not a whole lot they can do for you on the outside....and I think your tears and such are just fear that you'll be sent back to the hospital.
I don't think your ready to go back and I don't' believe you liked it one lil bit. So the best way to do that is to work your treatment. Work with your Pdoc and you Therapist and use different Therapies from medications to talk Therapy to Journaling, group Therapy for people your age and your illness, Learn healthy coping skills and behaviors to replace the Unhealthy Learned Behaviors, join a DBT Therapy group, study Therapy practices on your own.
I enjoy drawing, painting and coloring and these activities depending on whether you do them in Black & White or Color use different lobes of your brain to control your emotions and depression. I use a book that focuses on keeping yourself in the Buddhist practice of "Mindfulness" combined with coloring and bookwork. Its a very good book and keeps my mind in the place it needs to be.
I hope that you are able to continue going in the right direction and get help for your depression and not let the PTSD excuse derail your thinking.
Take care,
kat
