Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
If I were you, I would tell my parents of the things that have happened to you, so that you can obtain urgent medical treatment. The person(s) who have done this to you will be held to account under the law. You are a minor, and who ever that hurt you must be prosecuted for sexual assault of a minor.
Your parents love you and protect you, and they will do everything they can to obtain medical treatment for you. There is no shame to admit that you have a mental illness, as it is a medical condition just like any other, such as heart disease, or kidney disease. The organ that is sick in you is your brain due to a chemical imbalance and past sexual trauma. As with any disease, mental illness can be treated with medications and psychotherapy. If your mental illness is due to your past sexual abuse, perhaps the State (government) can assist you with free medical treatment.
Don't be afraid to tell your parents, or your school teachers. They will help you to access to medical services and the authorities. There is no shame to disclose that you have been abused. You are the victim of the abuse, the shame is cast upon the perpetrator of the abuse/assault. Take courage and seek help from your parents. From what I can observe, no one will cast shame on you, nor should you feel embarrassed. Do not cower inside a dark room. You are a young girl with a bright future ahead of you. There are plenty of positive, happy life events for you to experience. Take care, and best wishes.
Have you heard of Stockholm Syndrome? It is a psychological response that occurs when hostages or abuse victims bond with their captors or abusers, and give excuses or defend for their perpetrators when the abusers are captured. You are exhibiting straits of the Stockholm Syndrome right now.
If you fear of repercussion for your abuser once you have disclosed the abuse, you know yourself this fear is irrational, don't you? The perpetrator of a sexual abuse must be caught, and you should not assist him/her to get away with it because he/she will repeat the abuse on another child. Who is the abuser, may I ask? Is he/she someone you know, a family member/relative that you want to protect or conceal to avoid embarrassment to the family? This fear is irrational, and you should not feel guilty of disclosing the abuse to the authority.
You are only 16 years old, and from your own response, I can observe that you clearly lack mental capacity to distinguish what is right from wrong. Tell your parents or your teachers of the sexual abuse you have experienced. The adults will decide for you what is the best course of action to take. You don't have to worry about the consequences to the perpetrator upon your disclosure of the abuse. Let your parents, your school, the police and the Court make decisions to protect you.
I say tell your parents that you have what you know to be social anxiety, depression and panic attacks and you want to talk to a doctor. If you cannot talk to your parents, the doctor is the best choice anyway.
Something you said suggests there are other problems with 'family'.
"that would definitley cause more problems for me and my family,"
(more problems)
You are stuck because there is no one to 'talk to' about your condition. You could begin by calling a teen crisis line or talking to a school counselor. The important thing is to talk about yourself to someone who can help (Doctor, therapist, counselor).
You are suffering greatly ... for someone your age. It's important you make some kind of contact with a qualified person.
when i was younger and living with my parents things were really really bad for me and i never told them because i thought it would make things worse. and i still believe that to an extent. talking to them wouldn’t have helped me. but... but there ARE people who can help you. your teachers.. there are hotlines out there to help kids in tough spots. if your parents can’t or won’t help you there are still people who can.
here to talk if you need xxx
The more you have disclosed, the more I think that you need professional help (doctor, psychotherapist, counselor). This kind of subject should not be disclosed on a public online forum like this. You need to discuss this subject with your parents and other health professionals, who can help you to treat this mental condition.
