My favorite holiday tradition is New Years. I do not do any of the rebel rousing any more, I am 72 years old and do not drive at night. I dont even stay up til midnight to watch the ball drop in Times Square.
On New Years Eve I prepare my version of a New Years traditional meal as if I were feeding 10-12 people and leave in on the countertop in covered casserole dishes
Black-eyed Peas with hog jowl
Yellow rice
Collard greens
Corn bread
Mandarin oranges in raisin sauce.
Because I live alone I do not prepare a sit down meal, I just snack on this all day on January 1 while I make my resolutions and prepare my budget for the year.
Before bedtime I will mix the collards and peas with hog jowl in the rice I call my New Years casserole and put it in serving size freezer containers to have throughout the year

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

Well my holidays usually are Christmas eve with my family...mom's house is the place...she is 91 now and we do not have lots of Christmas's together coming up unfortunately....
I do each person in family some kind of gift and get similar gifts from most of them in return....sometimes my nuckle headed nephews do not give anything or they give something unuseful...last year a big mug with Godiva written on it and chocolate mix for hot coacoa....ugg really? You thought that was the perfect gift for your uncle? Hahaha....this year he gets two videos one is three Austin Powers Movies and other is 5 Clint Eastwood movies....hahaha I got cha back...and I wanna borrow Austin Powers I have never seen any of those movies! LOL
I go out at times on new years eve only when invited and since I have 20yrs sobriety in AA I do not drink anything...lately last few years if I was out I got home before the neighborhood breaks out in gunfire at midnight....I of course am covered up in bed...but the doggie Shep is noise sensitive and he goes crazy barking which gets Tucker barking too....so once that all settles down I usually get to sleep with nothing much more exciting on New Years eve....
The old days new years eve was a big drunk time...glad that is over....
This year I have a meetup group that I belong to and used to be organizer of when it was singles over 50 having given it to someone else who made it friends over 50 because he got married within the group...anyway he is having a party at his house with the wife....they call it karaoke night but I do not sing...but I did get a date for first meeting with gal in the meetup group that met me on OK CUPID singles dating website....so she is long way away from me about 30miles and the guy who has party is probably 30miles north west from me....so she is going to drive here then I drive to the party...we have talked online and on phone a bit...she is widow and I am divorced for long 8yrs now...I am hopeful for a bit of fun with her to come in new year as this is first date...and first face to face meeting....she has pic online and is blonde...pretty too...so we will see....
I am 58yrs old single dude with no kids just the two fur babies Shep and TuckTuck!

People used to drop by and have a snack with me but the older I get the fewer visitors I have on New Years.
I quit drinking alcohol and hanging out in bars 21 years ago last month.
