Hi all,

I was on BuproprionXL 150 mgfor 23 days and then immediately switched to Wellbutrin XL 150 which I have been on for 7 days. I don't feel that it is doing much at all. I also take Clonazapam at night (which I've been on for three years. I know I have to wean off the Wellbutrin if I decide to go off it, but I am wondering what withdrawal symptoms I might experience. Has anyone been on it and then weaned themselves off?

These two medications are basically the same (Buproprion being the generic form of Wellbutrin). I have been on Buproprion for about 9 years. I am wondering if you have discussed weaning yourself off this medication with your doctor? I'm asking for a couple of reasons. One, it may take 4-6 weeks for the medication to take effect, and you may be too impatient (although I DO understand if you are) to wait that long. Two, being that I take 150mg in the a.m., 150mg at lunch, and 300mg at bedtime, which means perhaps your dosage needs to be increased, not decreased. That is my experience. I wish you well, as it took me 2 years of searching before I found that Wellbutrin was the right medication for me, and I understand how frustrating it can be to find the right medication. I also take Clonazapam a night (1mg). Take care.

You are absolutely right about the patience part. That is one thing I don't have a lot us. AsI said in my other posting to you, Prozac worked so well and so fast, that I expected this to work the same way. I would be apprehensive to take more because of the anxiety I had the first few days on both buproprion and Wellbutrin. But it is something I may have to consider. I see you take 300 mg at bedtime. That doesn't keep you awake! Be well and thank you for the posting!

Hi. The 300mg doesn't keep me awake..but that may be because I take restoril (a sleeping pill) but I took that before the Wellbutril. I read your other post and agree that sometimes we confuse a difficult time with a possible medication side effect when first on a new mediation. After experience with one medication, it's difficult to know what to expect on a new one. From my experience, having taken several, they are all different, as we are all different, thus we react differently to them as indivuals. As I said, it's a good idea to wait a bit if you can, then you will be sure and not miss out on a possible solution. I wish you the best of luck and hope this is your answer since you have been taking it for a while already. :-)
