hey folks -
i've received a few messages from you over the last few days regarding one of our former members, ElCapitan.
there's been all sorts of stories floating around, and i just thought i'd share some of my perspective on this situation to clear up any misconceptions.
first of all, we try to avoid sharing the specific details about a member and any interactions with customer care with you. it's a policy that we've derived as we've become more and more focused on the privacy of our members...we just don't want to get into a situation where we're providing personal details or anything that the specific member wouldn't want made public. so I apologize if I'm not sharing enough details for some of you, and I've been slow to get back (also, i'm technically on vacation, but well, it's hard to stay away from DS).
I consider ElCap to be a friend. As many of you know (because he told you), we spoke on the phone 2 or 3 times and I found him to be a smart, personable guy. The member care team at DS (and me personally) took extraordinary measures to keep him on DS, happy and a positive, contributing part of our community.
Unfortunately, Cap is no longer on DS, and I will respect his privacy and our policy and provide little further details as to the cause.
I'd like to simply say that I'm saddened that he's not on the site anymore.
For those of you who think that we have an agenda, or that we favor certain members over others, it's just not true. As I've said before, we focus all of our energies on running a safe, supportive environment for all of you, and we try to avoid interfering at all if we can help it. We take member care very seriously.
We continue to work on new product features which will allow you to have more control over whom you interact with and give you more specific tools to assist you in your personal struggles.

I trust that you do the right thing in these situations and don't question what you do. I have seen so many come and go on here and can hope that they are better off for the time they spent on here. I can only think of all those that leave on their own, that they did get help from this site and have moved on with their lives. I do miss so many and yet there is new people coming on everyday. I hope to be able to help anybody while they are here. If anybody ever needs anyone to talk to, I am here. I seem to be on here more to give support then get it at this point.

As for ElCap, I can't imagine why he would be banned! He was such a wonderful addition to this site, and a wonderful support person for anyone with a problem! He has helped so many on this site. I hope that he will be welcomed back when/if he decides to come back to DS.
In Cap's case, I believe he has chosen not to come back because this is the second time he's been banned without knowing the reason why, though I think he can guess -- thing is the person he supposedly insulted (the thread was gone before I could read it) has publicly forgiven him and denied complaining about him
I do believe (and I understand Doug can't say anything about this) that Cap was the victim of an effort by certain people to get him kicked off the site -- you only have to see some of the smirking comments about his banning to feel that way.
I'll miss him--even when he was a bitchy grump, his heart was always in the right place and he really cared about the people here.
take what doug has to say and quit the whole CAP OCD crap.
if he WAS such a GREAT friend, then i'm sure u have his email addy, and he can work his wonderous ways from there.
i've been here forever..and take my word, no one gets banned and stays that way if it isn't by choice.

I agree that people who were close to Elcap should then have the ways to communicate with... however I really believe this is more hten that as members fear loosing friends and the ability to remain on this sight. Its the unknown that leaves us volunerable and that is what I think this fear is about.
