Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I am 'alone' about 90% of the time. No friends or family. But ... I am fine with it ... really. That is because I stay SO BUSY. I am retired ... so can have a pet dog who I am with almost constantly. Not everyone can do that. I am busy from the time I get up until very late at night ... yard work, grocery shopping, helping acquaintances with computer problems, I live on a lake ... and have a kayak ... but I have not tried it out yet. I have quadcopter drones I enjoy flying. I spend a lot of time on the Internet .... enjoying a lot of the new technology.
Whatever .... until you are able to develop relationships (I have about given up), I suggest you stay busy.
Good luck to you. I hope you can resolve your issues soon.
I definitely feel the same way sometimes. It's hard. Even the human interactions I do have on bad days just feel empty. This is a good place to reach out to get support and I'm glad you did. You are never alone, even though in dark times it feels like you are.
You're stronger than you think! and I think the previous posts have some great tips for getting through the day. Try to stay busy and stay positive. It was also great you reached out on here. I know that was a big step for myself and I'm glad I did.
Thanks for checking in. Maybe posting here will help you to feel not so alone. Have you thought about trying to make friends in your area? Maybe think about your interests and get involved in a local group. Keep posting and checking in. I hope you feel better.
Keep you sense of humor. I have some ways to deal with it. I learned once that when the barometer is rising or falling rapidly, you probably will feel it. So, I bought a barometer, got the Coast Guard to teach me how to read it, and then I ignore it, until and if I am hurting all over, and cannot figure out why! Then I check the barometer, and if it is changing, I can go "Oh. It's just the weather. I can handle this." I have my doctor's permission to take one extra dosage of pain meds, and take a nap. Usually, by the time I am awake again, most of the paint is gone.
I have pretty much given up traveling, if it involves a stay in a hotel. I think they all have cement beds! Right now, I ]
have two recliners, one for sleeping, one for daily use. I can't afford a hospital bed, yet. In some cases however, your doctor can prescribe one, and Medicare will supply it. If you are already on disability, it helps. Are you on disability yet? Are you married? Do you have children?
I live in a very sweet and small town in Nevada. We have Springs here, that are 84 degrees year around, and we swim in it all summer. Swimming is the one exercise I can do which does not hurt me. (I was a scuba diver in Hawaii for over 10 years, and at least, I can still swim)
Let us know a bit more about your situation, and we can perhaps, all share some ways that we have of coping. Best wishes, Penny McCracken.
