As a matter of fact, I called one about a week ago or so. They were very understanding and even looked up some possible Therapists in my area that might help me. They will talk to you as long as you need them to and should give you some suggestions that will help you. I highly recommend calling them if you are feeling suicidal as well as your doctor on Monday. If you don't get the satisfaction or help that you feel you need right now with suicide prevention, please go to your local emergency room or call 911. We are here for you too. Gentle hugs. I used one before when I was in HS and it was great for me. The woman was super nice and she helped me sort out everything that was making me depressed and recommended other services in my area such as gramybear stated. It honestly helped me wonderfully not solve my depression but it got me on track to get better when my life was ruin. If you do feel like such give them a call, very, very understanding to any situation. If you need someone to talk I'm good at giving advice. Sincerely, Torrance.

Told me where to find help but could not help; I suppose there was just no connection. Tried again and they told me to get sober....my friend his wife were like WTF? I was all pulled up and boosted with tater juice because, well because .....

I suppose hot lines are ok, ok if they do not hang up on you....I suppose a busy signal is ok though....

where I work I have to use a knife and I used to to slit deep wrists cuts a few times do to no success of killing myself

I've called them once because someone gave me their number. I needed someone to talk to (but I was not suicidal). I just needed someone to talk with me; when I called them, the lady listened but she interrupted my conversation and asked was I going to commit suicide, I said NO. She told me that they would only talk with you if you were going to do that but it was not a hotline to talk to anyone if you need them to talk with. I do not have a therapist nor do I have anyone in my family I can trust to talk with because they switich my words around, making it sound as in putting words in my mouth. I do talk with my youngest brother but he is crowded with his own problems.

That's the experience I had when I called them.

Thank you everyone for your replies and for sharing your experiences. I did not end up calling the hotline, however, may in the future. I was not and am not in immediate danger of committing suicide, but I think about it a lot, and often have a difficult time managing my emotions.

wep - I am so sorry you did not have a very good experience using the hotline. I am not sure what country you live in, but from what I read on the website for the hotline in the US, it is meant for anyone who is going through a tough time and needs someone to talk to, whether they on the brink of committing suicide or not. So it makes me a little upset that the woman on the phone told you that.

If you ever need anyone to talk to, feel free to friend me and message me on here (this goes for anyone). I am on here often and promise to listen without judgment. Sometimes, just having someone listen to us can make things a little better.
