Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
It's important to keep your appointments with your doctor and therapist. And admit yourself to the hospital if you think you can no longer cope. This is one thing that I find extremely difficult to do.
It does sound like you are being very hard on yourself. I was also raised by a very strict christian family and understand the guilt you describe (I am not saying all Christians are the same or some amount of strictness is wrong). If you are unwell,of course you may need to rest more.If you are depressed and finding it hard to get out of bed it's a good idea to see the doctor.Have you phoned re. the therapy appointment to apologise/rebook?
If you are hiding from life then there is a problem. It is only a sin if you do it on Sunday mornings instead of going to church. This is true for Roman Catholics, heathens, Episcopalians, Communists, Samolians, and City Council Women.
But seriously, .. you are describing a symptom of depression and ANYONE can have depression but there does not have to be guilt.
Better to get a diagnosis and get on a treatment plan. Depression can cause more problems than hiding in bed.
I have been in treatment and on meds before, but realized that I was on the wrong dosage (about half of what I should have been on) for months and working constantly. The stress and exhaustion caught up with me and on top of getting sick, I got very depressed. So I've been feeling anxious about getting back to work, guilty that I barely get out of bed and the reason I sleep is yes, to hide, or to find relief from the voices that beat me up all day long. Sleeping is the only thing that keeps the voices at bay and for a few moments when I wake up I don't remember all of the thoughts that keep crashing in on me and paralyzing me so that I can't get anything done.
I know that I need to be patient, that's what the doctor and therapist say, but in the meantime, it's really hell.
