Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Hi...I don't really know what to write tonight. I don't think I should really be alone, but I just can't deal with being with or around anyone tonight. I hope it's ok if I just hang out here.
I wrote a journal earlier, but deleted it. Just a rant about how my family just simply can not understand (or won't) They just can not accept that depression IS real. Not in my head, not "made up". And sure as hell not something I did or choose to be.
No one wants to read something like that. But at the very least I got it out of my head a little.
Oh well. It is what it is I guess.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

Does anyone follow her? She's really got some good tips.
I would read, I find that journaling helps me find that space. Hope you feel better soon.
How did it go at the doctor's last week? Did you talk to them about going back on medication?
Do you still talk to your therapist?
We're here for you! You are not alone. You're going to be okay.
that was part of the journal I deleted.
I did see my Dr and got meds. I started them yesterday (after avoiding it for a week)
That's what my family has a problem with more than anything. They are (in their words) "disappointed that I think I need to see a therapist. And ashamed that Im now taking meds. I should just grow up and deal with life like I have some sense."
Im almost 50, so I shouldn't care what my parents say. But I do.
In truth, if they had gotten me actual help as a child when my anxiety started instead of trying to shame me out of it. I probably wouldn't be as bad as I am now.
In short yes.
I'm still seeing my therapist.
And just started meditation.
I was told it might take a little while to take affect.
It's great that you saw your doctor and have started medication
Depression is no different than any othef illness that requires treatment
Im bipolar and my family had a big problem with kt so I stopped disussing it with them as it just brought me down
I jounalled, came here, talked to my doc and was in group therapy which was really helpful
Sending you another hug of peace and support sweetie...xo
I just joined here yesterday and didn't think that I'd have anything to contribute to someone else. My husband asked for a separation/divorce just last Saturday..
My depression/anxiety has been managed by my primary dr,, not a psychiatrist. I met with a Psych NP and we are weaning off my current antidepressant to one that doesn't ramp up my anxiety. She also gave me a list of 4 counselors to start counseling again. It felt so great to have a game plan again.
My whole family has depression/anxiety. and 1 of our sons, too. My (what do you even call tm.?) husband is a firm believer of ..."just pull up your bootstraps" "just get up and think positively, etc. So he does NOT buy into mental illness is really a thing at all.
You can't make them buy into your treatment. Take care of YOU. Try to not let their discontent, guide what is best for you!
