Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
With respect to your daughter's father not being in contact with her ... his loss, plain and simple.
All you can do is to let her know how wonderful and special she is (which I'm sure you are doing), and to reiterate over and over again that her father not being in her life is NOT HER FAULT.
I don't know why some parents would turn their back on their children. Perhaps they're missing what it is to nurture? I'd say the booze probably plays a big role in your daughter's father's case. What was his childhood like growing up? Is he repeating old patterns from his own childhood?
There may well come a time when he wants to see her, and by then it may be too late depending upon what her feelings are.
Essentially, it his his loss.
Congrats to you for being there for your daughter and yourself!
I can understand that you feel bad about him not being around, but that's a decision that HE made, not you. Children aren't dumb by any means, they see, they hear and they figure out what's going on. I think you'd be better off concentrating on being a supportive mum to your girl rather than focusing on what the ex-hubby is not doing, after all, you guys lead separate lives now, make the most of it cos you'll get all the joys of watching your daughter blossom into a young adult and that's awesome xxxx
