Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

One way to look at this: you have exiled yourself from her life. With the apology she can't do any worse than you have already done yourself.
And she may surprise you; sometimes friendships are stronger after somebody makes a goof.
Gentle hugs
Secondly: I think we all have a dreadful comments scar somewhere in our psyche. My brother told me his one: I think it wins on the 'omg' stakes. A friend he met at a party was undergoing chemotherapy. The friend said 'they're trying x on me now'. the brother said 'but isn't that what they do when you're terminal?'
And then had the rest of the party to just die inside. Where is a rock, or a hole in the ground when you need one?
What you need to understand is that your friend has one too. She has a dreadful clanger she has dropped. Somehow, somewhere. She does not know how you are feeling right now: she doesn't know if you thought what you said was a clanger or not. So what you do is next time you see her you say 'oh my GAWD i was soooooo embarrassed the other day when I said that DREADFUL thing to you. Can you FORGIVE ME? or something.
Or: depending on her personality. If she's a quiet type, just say 'look I feel really stink about what I said to you the other day and i hope I didn't hurt you'. You can rightfully say this. This is a socially okay thing to do. It's normal. What's also normal is for her to either ignore it, because she doen't know what to do with it, or else say 'thanks, I felt awful when you said that'. or else 'LOL you're such a giant nong alliecat with your look on the bright side stuff. You'd find something cheerful to say if I told you I was dying of cancer.'
in short, give it your best shot. Wing it. Real friends let things go. Real friends don't expect their friends to be perfect. Real friends just take it all as it comes.
You haven't failed. You've just been a normal person. :p
That is an awesome way to phrase it!
OK, I'm stepping dsown off my soap box... based on the number of typos I've been corrrecting lately it's time to quit anyway before my hands go into full revolt... I'm answering the Call Of The Recliner... plus, my son's home sick from camp today, so I'm sure I won't be relaxing for too long... But I'm also sending you a big box of virtual hugs, in all sizes from small and gentle to great, big, bear to suit any need or occasion, some good vibes, a bunch of positive directed energies (agnostic/atheistic version of prayers), and lots of love... Be good to yourself... we humans deserve it...
Peace,
Dave
Please don't be so hard on yourself. Your reaching out and telling it like it actually is? A very good start!
As for the cutting, I hope you won't hurt yourself physically. I was told by a doctor I saw that it helps deflect the pain? Teach me more, please. Meanwhile, keep talking. Talk with your friend, too. Whatever happens, you will at the very least have an answer. We all have had verbal diarrhea. Take care.
