Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I had a friendship that ended. It wasn't messy and there weren't any ill feelings at least to my knowledge. But it has been very hard on me as it was not my choice.
The former friend of mine ended up responding to something I said on DS. They were on here with a new account. I do not think they believed I would realize it was them, but I did.
They did not say anything hurtful, but it was just painful for me to see them on DS and communicating with friends while I was hurting and missing their friendship. I have not been in a great place mentally and this was making me feel worse so I decided to have my account closed. I felt like it was no good for me to see them on DS while I was hurting so badly. No one did anything wrong, I just need time to heal.
The next day I decided to email them because I was still hurting. It was mostly about how I felt there was a communication breakdown on both our ends and I wasn't entirely sure what happened. I guess I was hoping I'd get a clearer answer to move on. I also mentioned how I left DS and it was no one's fault. I apologized for writing, made it clear I did not want to change any minds, and was not angry. I felt it was polite and non-confrontational. I thought such a letter couldn't have done any harm, but in hindsight it was a bad idea.
I received an angry reply basically treating me as a stalker. They said they were blocking my emails, cancelling their DS account, and deleting twitter. I was so upset that I would be treated that way. One email does not make me a stalker. I would not have realized they were on DS under a new account if they had not replied to one of my postings on here. I also had no idea they had twitter.
Since then I have been feeling really bad and guilty. I know they are in need of help just as much as I am so it makes me feel terrible they left DS after I emailed them.
At the same time I thought it would allow me to return to DS since they were no longer here, but I feel really guilty for wanting to return because I did NOT want them to leave DS. I was the one to make the choice to leave, but since they are gone and I could really use the support I decided to look out for my best interests.
Anyway I have cried a lot over this mess because I just feel terrible and I ache for them. I never wanted them to lose their support on DS. I just wish I never would have sent that email. But I did not know it would end like this. I also wish I could just tell them how sorry I am and how I didn't want for this to happen. I never wanted to do anything to hurt them.
I feel like such a jerk for having my account re-opened.

Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ. Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...

I am so sorry to hear you're going through that. It sounds like quite the miscommunication to be had. I don't think that you're in any way a stalker for emailing a supposed friend (although they didn't act too friend-like, from what I've read..). It sounds like you were generally concerned and wanted to talk to them. I'm very sad to hear their response was such a negative one. Sometimes people react without thinking, and maybe in this case, they did so without thinking? I really cannot say, as I don't know you or them.. But I do hope the best comes from this.
Please, please think of yourself first and foremost. You are mainly here for yourself, correct? You need help, just as much as anyone else does. Just because they left, does not mean that you have to.. and it shouldn't mean you stop receiving advice and such when you need it from the people on this site. We're all here to help, but don't let one person bring you down to such a negative level. Keep your chin up, and if they decide to come back, great.. If they don't, it is truly their loss and their loss alone.

When someone says goodbye, here, or in real life, you have to accept it. No explaining, no trying to fix anything -- you just have to accept it, and move on. As you said, the e-mail was a bad idea
and you regret sending it.
Should they come back to the board at some point, it will almost certainly be for reasons not connected to your former friendship.
I left not long ago, and then came back - it's been a long, cold, boring winter.
You Have Every Right To Be Here.
I Was So Sad When You Left.
The Other Person Overreacted. That's Not Your Fault.

somebody on this site got mad at me---cause SHE couldnt understand what i wrote, THEN out of clear blue sky i became some great friend!?!.....and then she dropped me BECAUSE...she...once again didnt understand what i wrote.
WASNT MY FAULT WHAT SO EVER.
and, i didnt bother to try to explaining to her either.
(i also know about "rabid guilt"----that's how i describe my # of times i went over the edge about guilt.
your "friend" doesnt sound like a friend i'd want in my life. who knows what triggered your friend's reaction; probably even had nothing to do what what you wrote, but whatever goes on in that person's mind years before coming here.
Anyways you have been on the boards for a very long time and have every right to be here.
I just don't ever want to hurt someone or prevent them from getting help.
When I was younger a friend of many years stopped talking to me out of the blue. Literally one day everything was normal and the next she would not talk to me. She never talked to me again and I never knew what happened or why. It was the beginning of traumatic years for me in school.
Anyway I take the loss of friendships very hard and it is excruciating not to have answers. It makes me wonder what is wrong with me.
Are you friends on the outside or from DS? Either way, it is not your fault that they CHOSE to leave DS. It sounds like you need to be here with us and I'm glad you are back. Hugs GB
