Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I'm at the beach for a work function. I should be enjoying it but I can't. I can pretend that I am. On the way here I had nothing but anxiety attacks. Now that I'm here with friends all I want to do is go curl up in bed and watch movies. I know I'll probably have anxiety attacks while I'm here.
They don't know the struggles I have. I don't want anyone tip toeing around my feelings or feeling sorry for me. I also don't know if I can trust them since everyone I trust seems to keep hurting me.
I just want this to be over and not deal with it anymore.

Everyday I feel more and more sick. Being in pain every day, I've learned to disguise it. So well that others don't believe my pain when I speak of it. Needing help but only receiving negative responses, I find my way but pay for it later. I absolutely need the rest but there's pressing things to be done.

Ugh my depression is really being triggered by the grief of losing my mom. Ugh it sucks. I wish this pain would leave me already.

W/o knowing exactly what's going on, except that you are with "friends " you Don 't trust and it IS work function which adds pressure.. well. ...How are you at putting focus on those around you? Have you ever read "How to win friends and influence people"? I'm sure there are cheap 2nd hand paperback s out there, its worth a read. I read it once, since our work manager handed out copies and assigned us to read out. I attended an important work celebration soon after w the companies clients. Feedback came back on ME! That I was just impressive, lovely, professional, etc. (I think I'll give it a read again and apply to my personal life!)
But since you can't read now, basically, it's about focusing on those around you (this should take pressure off of yourself) be sincere! Ask them about themselves. .. not in that aggressive news interviews way, but unobtrusive, quiet, thoughtful questions. Really listen to their answers, where you may pick up clues as to what interests them. Don 't corner anyone and close them in. Work the party. A few sincere but not too personal questions. ..even "so, u work in receiving?" "How did you get into that?" In their answer they may reveal they like sailing or cooking. .. things totally unrelated which take the conversion to a fun place. Leave an exit for you, and then, move on. .."Oh, I need to grab another water. .."
It's so much easier when you don't really have to talk too much about yourself, and people will remember better, when you don't. Cuz they got to talk about their favorite topic! Themselves! Lol
