I am going thru hell right now. I have been struggling the past year with some neurological issues. Well, I have tested negative for everything the docs can think of. I have been on Effexor XR for about 7 years now. Before that was celexa. I never wanted to stop taking it because I knew that the withdrawals were going to be hell. With the neurological issues now, my husband told me I should stop the Effexor XR as it can really mess up my nervous system. I spoke to my doc about it. I have been weaning off of it for the past three months now. It has been slow but not horrible. Until now! I am not taking any at this moment and just want to blast a large hole into my head to make these feelings of misery stop. I am so agitated and cannot calm down. I feel like hurting other people ...physically hurting them. I want them to feel the pain that I am going thru. I know this is dark and horrible. How is it that I am addicted to this drug that is legal? How is it that pharmaceutical companies can get away with giving this stuff to people? There is no way that anyone should feel this way coming off of a drug that is supposed to help them.
I went to work but couldn't do it. I left today because I fear that I will hurt someone. Now, I never want to go back. I want to resign my position and just take the time to get right in the head and then find something better for me. I have been hating my job for the past two years now. It really isn't the job itself so much as the people around me. They are so narcissistic that it is sickening. They think they can run the place blindfolded because they are the best. I want away from them. Not that there aren't people like that everywhere. I feel like I have been locked away with them for too long now. If I am gonna change things then I should start with that change first. I know that my entire family is going to try to talk me out of it. I know they are going to tell me to take a while to think this thru. Make the decision when I am not going thru all these withdrawal feelings. but, right now is the best time for me. UGH!!!! being a grownup sucks!

Jennilee...I know..I've been there and I wouldn't have logged on to this site tonight if I was having depression issues myself right now. I don't know your past but the substances you mentioned are just a band aid that will lead to more and more problems. I am an alcholoic and I heard one think that helped me get through the last 21 years without a drink they call it HALT. Do not allow yourself to get Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired. If you make decisions (leaving job) while you are any of these you may regret it. Get something to eat, think of some time in your past that you were the happiest. Call a friend or relative and talk about a happy moment and get plenty of sleep and get up in the morning and make your decision. God Blenss you.

Thank you for the comments. I did get some sleep and feel the same way. I am going to go back to work and collect my belongings and turn in my resignation. I have never had the courage to do this before in my life. At some point though, I need to think about me and my health. This whole job could be the cause of my health issues. I have days where I cannot walk at all and have been trying to get a diagnosis from the doctors about what is going on. They can find nothing at all. So, I struggle in life with my health and at work with mean bullies daily. I can leave the bullies behind and I am determined that I will do just that. I have been looking at the jobs available in the area and there are several that sound so much better to me. I am going to start applying for jobs today and make a fresh start. I am also going to ask my doc for a referral to a good counselor in the area and get things back in order. I know that it is not going to be easy learning something new and having new coworkers but it will be so much better for me in the long run. I work in a toxic environment that is not good for me. I can change that and I am going to!

I am actually thinking to get on Effexor. I do not have any choice. I was on Elavil. it helped with my anxiety but my depression is horrible. I was on half of the pill of Elavil and I started having the staff I had before it again. I just had blood presure going over 200 and heart problems. I believe that if my father would not be a doctor who knows what to do quickly enough I would have heart attack or stroke. I took like 7 pills from blood presure and heart before it came to relatively tolerable. I already tried most of antidepressants and only one that was reducing my struggles somewhat was Elavil. Effexor suppose to have simulare calming efect to Elavil but more of untidepressive effect. I heard about bad sideeffects and withdrawal too but I do not think I have any choice. I can not work or do anything for the last 9 months. If Effexor will not help I realy do not know what to do. I feel like my life is ended and nothing can help anymore. I do not want be obnoxious but in my case I can not blame anything on withdrawal from anridepresant. The situation is just returned back to what it was before I started taking it. I do not even think hat I will be able to wait several days after I stop one thing before starting the other thing. I am scared to die from stroke or heart attack. When I was taking Elavil it was holding me back so i could not get into this condition. It was very bad but now it returns back to horrible like it was before I started taking it. I hope God will help to all of us. I can not withstand it anymore. I can not even talk to people I am so bad.
