Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
But I tend to wake up early. If it is 2:00 am I can usually go back to sleep, but if I wake up at 4:00 or so, I seem to be unable to go back to sleep for that last hour or so.
Then I really drag long about 3 in the afternoon.
Not sure how to resolve this, so I just live with it.
I've tried some sleep aids, but I often feel like I had unproductive sleep. Sorry, that is the best way I can describe it.
I don't know what to tell you about the waking, other than to ask your psych what they suggest?
I think you're on the right track in suspecting that it may be depression 'triggered' by the other issues (as mine was). The only thing I can think of to try would be melatonin, which is a natural sleep aid. Take it about a 1/2 hour before you want to sleep and turn down the lights (that lets you body produce its own melatonin). I'm not doctor, that's just what I've tried and it works for me...I can't take regular sleeping pills and the melatonin doesn't make you feel druggy, just naturally sleepy.
Sorry for the babble lol...wishing you peace (and good sleep!)
Summerwind81, thanks for the suggestion about the melatonin. I have used it before in the past, and it seems to help.
Thanks again for all your replies. I hope you all find peace (and good sleep, too!) Take care.
My own bouts of genuine insomnia bother me, but I think now that middle-of-night or early morning awakenings have always been common. I've found that after such a night, it helps not to overdo the caffeine. A gallon of coffee makes me feel worse.
