Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Due to many medical issues, I've missed a lot of school. Majority is due to migraines caused by sinus infections. Today, the counselor at this alternative school I go to told me that I might not be able to keep my spot there since I've missed so much and I don't have a doctor's note for every single day that I've been absent. If I don't finish 2 classes in 2 weeks, I will be dropped from the school.
I already told my parents and they aren't mad, which I'm grateful for, but I can't help but feel like such a failure and dissapointment. I'm supposed to do better than this, I'm supposed to be better than this, but I'm not. I'm a total screw-up.
I'm also really scared. I'm not scared of having to drop out, but I'm scared that this last little bit of hope that I have is going to end up crumbling in front of my eyes and I have no idea how I'm going to take it. I almost had a complete meltdown in front of the school counselor when she broke the news.
I feel like I'm just delaying the inevitible, that I'm just setting myself up for more dissapointment, pain, and self hatred.

Hello,I do not share with my husband and others when I have a setback and feel depressed. Are you the same? I withdraw, so it is nice to just acknowledge challenges in this chat. Thank you,

I lost my dog last July to cancer, as some of you might remember. It was devastating and I got very depressed, but through treatment I got back to "my normal" last month. I've been poking around the rescue sites to adopt a dog and I've seen a few since July and I visited them but decided I wasn't ready. I actually adopted one in September but realized I was too depressed and it was a mistake so I...
I wish you all the best in your health.
It's horrible to be sick and trying to get school assignments in on time. Are you sure there is no way to get the lessons behind you in on time? Most schools have terms available for your type of situation. Your assigned school counselor should come up with strategies favorable to helping you keep your spot. Then you may further consider getting a letter or note of documentation from your doctor concerning your existing health related issues. This is a critical stage for you, and even though you've not been available to get the homework for classes turned in it's not for lack of trying. I imagine that it's reasonable to think that there are a number of reasons to dismiss a student for failure to attend classes. However, the school should have a personal understanding of how to address students' unfortunate circumstances. I'd lean heavily on your school counselor for ideas useful to save you. This person is experienced to help you reach your educational goals, so take advantage of asking questions for the purpose of getting you what is in your best interest.
Best of luck to you! <3
I have an autoimmune condition, and since October 2019, I have caught so many viral infections non-stop (including the coronavirus) as such that I resort to take online classes and work from home. I have missed online classes when I became very sick, and I am now catching up on my assessments even though my hands are swollen and unable to type. I have to use the Dictaphone now to "write " my assessments even when I am unwell. You can do this too, or at least make an effort.
If your school still treats you this way, can you or your parents call the Board of Education of your state and explain about your illnesses? Some schools or universities treat students like numbers or cash cows, and are not concerned about the students' physical health and mental well-being. Go above the school and appeal, don't accept the school's verdict. Stand up for your rights.
